🟢 This image explains the main components of a network rack and how data and power flow inside a structured network. It shows a complete rack setup with labeled devices arranged vertically for efficient operation and management. At the top, the Router connects the internal network to the Internet ( WAN ). Below it, the Firewall provides security by filtering and protecting network traffic. The Network Switch manages LAN traffic and distributes connections to multiple devices. The Patch Panel is used for cable termination and organization, ensuring clean and structured cabling. Servers provide network services such as applications, file storage, and databases. For power management, the rack includes a UPS ( Uninterruptible Power Supply ) that provides backup power during outages, and a PDU ( Power Distribution Unit ) that distributes electricity to all devices. At the bottom, cooling and cable management systems maintain proper airflow and reduce heat. The diagram also illustrates the complete network flow : #Internet → #Router → #Firewall → #Switch → #Patch_Panel → End Devices ( PCs, printers, access points ). Overall, the image presents a clear and professional overview of how a network rack is organized and how data and power move through the system. What is a NOC? If you’re new to IT, or looking to get into the industry, this is fundamental to understand. NOC stands for Network Operations Center, and you can think of it like mission control for your network. They monitor everything - your sites, circuits, firewalls, and cloud environments. When something breaks - whether it’s a a fiber cut, a server crash, a downed site... the NOC is the first to know. They open tickets, escalate issues, and sometimes even fix problems before users notice anything’s wrong. Some NOCs separate their roles into two tiers: - Tier 1 handles basic troubleshooting and monitoring. - Tier 2 steps in for deeper technical fixes or escalation to engineering teams. The whole point of the NOC is to catch problems early, fix them fast, and keep your network running - even when sh*t hits the fan. P.S. have you ever worked in a NOC? #informationtechnology #networkengineer #networking #technology #workingintech #stem #ccna

how to snoop on network traffic: use a TAP! it’s better than a hub for this kind of a thing for sure 😂 TAP sometimes stands for Test Access Point, or can just be meant literally (“tapping into” network traffic). a network tap is a hardware device that passively copies network data for monitoring or analysis. it’s inserted between network segments so that all traffic can be observed by tools (like analyzers or security appliances) without interrupting or altering actual data flow. if you use many taps at the same time, some managed network switches allow you to set up Tap Aggregation. tap agg will allows combining all your tapped traffic flows into one & gives them unique identifiers by using 802.1Q (VLAN) tags. tap aggregation makes for a nice organized test setup—trust me! 😉 #networkengineer #ethernet #homelab #womenintech

Why Getting Hands-On With Switches Helps You Land a Network Engineering Job 🖥️🔌 If you’re serious about becoming a network engineer, you NEED to be familiar with switches. Not just the theory — the actual device. Here’s why 👇 ✅ Switches Are the Core of Every Network Before routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi, or cloud… everything starts at the switch. If you can configure and troubleshoot switches, you’re already valuable. ✅ Hiring Managers Want Hands-On Skills Anyone can pass a cert, but not everyone can jump into a rack, trace cables, configure VLANs, or troubleshoot ports. Knowing switches instantly makes you stand out. ✅ It Shows You Can Do the Real Work Entry-level networking roles rely heavily on switching: port configs, trunking, VLANs, access ports, STP basics — the “bread and butter” tasks of junior engineers. ✅ Hands-On = Confidence in Interviews When you actually touch the gear, you speak differently, you understand faster, and you answer interview questions with clarity. If you want to break into networking, switches are the FIRST device you should master. 💬 DM “network” and let’s get you where you need to be. #NetworkEngineering #CCNA #Cisco #ITCareers #TechJobs #SwitchingBasics
