It’s the sound of a heartbeat—American and alive.
I was raised in a house where the Bible stayed by the bed and the flag waved out front. Where we prayed before supper and believed in doing the right thing, even when no one was watching. Where freedom wasn’t free, and the strongest kind of patriotism was quiet, steady, and faithful.
And I still see it.
In the teenage boys folding flags on Memorial Day.
In the farmer who rises before dawn to tend land passed down with love.
In the teacher with no budget and endless hope.
In the neighbor who brings over a casserole when your world falls apart.
That’s America, too.
It doesn’t scream.
It doesn’t trend.
But it stands.
On the 4th of July, that heartbeat gets louder. In the brass bands. In the sticky hands waving flags. In the folding chairs set out before sunrise. In the veterans who still salute. In the children with wide eyes. And yes—even in those of us who’ve grown weary, but still feel something sacred stir.
We are not a perfect country. We never were. But the miracle is—we knew that from the start. Our founders wrote ideals they themselves couldn’t live up to. They left the work to us.
So, we carry it forward—generation by generation—closing the gap between promise and practice. Teaching our children not to worship this country blindly, but to love it deeply and shape it with truth.
Because real patriotism isn’t loud. It’s not cruel. And it’s not performative. It’s rooted. Reverent. It’s one hand over your heart and the other reaching for your neighbor.
So yes—I will still stand.
Not because everything is right, but because I believe it still can be.
Because the music never died. We just forgot how to listen.
