If you are using the Olympic lifts in your program, here is a program template that you could consider for your early off-season training. Week 1 50%/4 60%/4 (70%/4)3 Week 2 60%/3 70%/3 (80%/3)3* After first 80%, you can: -Continue as written -Increase 2.5%-5% and continue for triples for two or more sets Week 3 60%/3 70%/3 80%/3 85%/2 90%/1* After 90%, you can: -Stop -Do more singles at 90% -Go up for singles* (Use sparingly) Week 4 Deload Keep intensity between 50%-70% Notes: -Use 80-90% of 1 rep max as training max for the %’s -In weeks one and two, if Olympic lifting twice, repeat the first three sets only (50%/4 60%/4 70%/4, 60%3 70%3 80%3) -In week three, if Olympic lifting twice, do 50%, 60%3, 70%3 early in the week and the heavier day later in the week. -Consider pairing a Trap Bar Jump with the Clean or Snatch (Ex. Trap Bar Jump + Clean), 10%-20% heavier than the Olympic lift. It improves the coordination of the explosion during the Snatch and Clean. With new athletes whose relative intensity is low compared to their body weight, Trap Bar Jumps provided additional power production and deceleration stimulus. -Improvements in coordination at the same weight for multiple sets will yield better results than a deterioration of coordination at higher intensities. -Don’t base your training max off poorly done PRs. The intensity of the daily training weight will be too high. You have to use your coaching eye and make adjustments regardless of what the data says. -When increasing maxes only go up 2.5%-5%
