Streaky sunset gradient applied with a spoon 🥄 What do you think of this technique? This is a fast and easy way to get a color gradient on your cake! Just dot some gel food colors on a freshly frosted cake and gently run the back of a spoon around to smear the color in. I’ve seen this done by other cake artists using cake combs too and think it’s such a fun look! Make waves through the buttercream to gently blend the colors together⁣ 4. This is my method for creating a really blended ombre look. You can just do a couple passes with a scraper without all the “zigzag blending” but I find that method doesn’t really mix the two colours very well. I prefer the look of a super gradual shift from one colour to the next. You can use this method with multiple colours on one cake although it does become a little trickier the more colours you add! Ombré Pink Birthday Cake Tutorial Get your cake ready, final coated and make sure the buttercream is firmed up. Start attaching the ribbon diagonally to the cake, I m using brand new satin ribbon. I m using ribbon as I found out ribbon stays flat to the cake unlike parchment paper (they tend to ruffle not flat due to the moisture from the cake) If you are using crusty buttercream maybe you should thinly brush piping gel to the ribbon to make it stick to the cake. Start covering the cake with the colored buttercream of your choice, smooth it out with smooth hound comb and while the buttercream still soft, comb it right away using Micro Scallop cake comb. Peel the ribbon RIGHT AWAY. If you want to get clean lines, do not freeze or let your cake sit in the fridge. For this cake I let the cake sit in the fridge for about 5 minutes and as you can see the buttercream start to set, not clean and easy to peel. Clean up the excess buttercream on top using your angled spatula and smooth comb.
