OMTwo weeks ago, we celebrated 75 years since OMF missionaries first arrived in Japan and 60 years since Japanese missionaries were first sent overseas with OMF. Celebrations were held in Sapporo on November 22 and in Tokyo on November 24. More than 450 people (in person and online) joined together to give thanks to God and celebrate his faithfulness to us as a mission over all these years.
The theme was “Doing Mission Together,” which was reflected not only in the program but also in the diversity of people who gathered.
OMF International’s General Director, Joseph Chang, spoke at both events, calling us to partner with God and each other in his work. He preached from John 3:29–30, emphasizing the words: “He must increase, but I must decrease”(v. 30, NKJV).
Joseph also shared a story we posted here in September about partnering with a Japanese pastor to plant a church in Kanto: “Partnering with a Japanese church to plant a church”.
