As you advocate for your clients’ safety, we advocate for ours. Most repetitive strain injuries in manicurists come from three movements: • Flexion – bending the wrist forward • Extension – bending it backward • Rotation – inward/outward motion Here’s what’s happening biologically: The tendons that move your fingers run through a narrow passage in your wrist (the carpal tunnel), alongside the median nerve. When you manicure outside of the neutral posture: • those tendons are under tension • friction increases • chances of swelling increase • chances of nerve compression increases Now add an e-file. E-files are not light. They subtly pull your wrist further out of the neutral posture the moment you slip into these movements. That additional weight increases strain. Here is the reassuring part: The e-file is not the issue. What is your wrist’s neutral posture? The position your wrist is in when your arm is rested by your side, when you hold a cup of coffee, when you hold a pencil, or even when you hold your e-file. When your brush is worn at the base of your fingers where rings normally sit, you have to over-curve your hand inward to reach the nail, that is flexion. When you repeatedly place your e-file down to lift a brush, that is rotation. That is repetitive strain. Worn on at the middle part of the finger, forward-facing, fitted and angled correctly: • your hand stays calm, aligned, neutral • less compensation • less fatigue • more control 🥀 This client has been wearing our brushes for some time. She is so in tune with her neutral posture that even the slightest angulation now makes a difference. At 16:00 in this clip, notice how she delicately rotates her brush so her wrist can stay neutral as the manicure progresses. 📌 Save this and observe your wrist while you manicure. You’ll notice every detail I’ve mentioned. 💌 Share this with a manicurist who could also benefit from less strain. Fear is normal. Especially when you’re not 100% sure where the safe line is. Difficult hands don’t scare you because they’re “impossible”. They scare you because you don’t fully understand the movement yet. And that’s fixable. In my mini training on difficult cuticle I break down exactly where the safe line is and how to work without guessing. Comment “difficult” and I’ll send you the details.

Before you file, ask yourself one thing. Am I removing product or preparing the nail? 🤔 That answer determines whether your file is doing its job or quietly causing damage. Most over filing is not about pressure. It happens when a grit stays on the nail longer than it should. Lower grit removes faster. Higher grit gives control. Each file has a purpose and timing matters. • 80/80 for heavy product removal only. High bite. Never natural nail prep. • 100/100 refines structure but remains aggressive. This is where techs tend to overstay. • 100/180 shifts the focus to control. Ideal for shaping and sidewalls. • 150/150 respects the natural nail. Prep, refine, remove shine without thinning. Answer the question first. The correct grit always follows. ✅ Save this for your next removal or prep.

When I first trained with an e-file, I thought slower = safer. It felt controlled… but it wasn’t always correct. Different bits are designed to work at different speeds. Too slow can cause dragging. Too fast can cause heat. The skill isn’t in rushing. It’s in understanding the tool. What’s actually slowing you down? Be honest. • Removing 80–90% of product every appointment. Technically you’re doing a fresh set each time. Why? Learn how to spot issues and file down product only when needed. • Fuffing around with cuticles trying to make them “perfect”, you can spend all day doing that, sometimes uou have to let go small imoerfections... • Applying product to absolute perfection… and then filing anyway. If a few controlled file strokes can fix it, stop applying to perfection. • No filing technique in place. No pressure control. No structure. You wouldn’t brush your teeth randomly - you follow a pattern. Filing is the same. • Taking 20–30 minutes just to apply gel colour. That’s not precision. That’s not knowing exactly how to do it - it’s guesswork. 👋🏻 I’m Maya, and I help nail techs build real skills beyond their basic training. All of these steps can be simplified. No chaos. No fuffing. No cutting corners. Just a clear, repeatable system you follow every single time. That’s exactly what I teach inside my courses and in my Nailing It manual - everything broken down step by step, so you’re not guessing your way through appointments. (Link in bio). Because 3-hour sets won’t pay your bills. Unless you’re charging £200 a set - and most of you aren’t.

💅 Leaving product under the nail is never “fine.” Even small contact with skin can:
❌ Increase allergy risks ❌ Compromise long-term adhesion
❌ Create invisible problems later 💡 Correcting before curing is about responsibility and understanding material behavior. This is one of the details most techs skip and one of the reasons lifting and sensitivities appear over time. 👉 If you want to understand why these steps matter, comment LIFTING to join the Zero Lifting waitlist. 📅 Course launches 20 February

Relax your hand” isn’t a request. It’s about safety. When I ask you to keep your hand relaxed, it’s not about comfort. It’s about precision and health. Tense muscles cause: – hand shaking or pulling away – loss of control and angle – higher risk of cuts – lower quality results But there’s more. Working on a tense hand puts heavy strain on a nail tech’s wrist. Over time, this can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome — a painful, long-term injury. A relaxed hand means: ✔️ better precision ✔️ safer work ✔️ a cleaner result ✔️ protection of the nail tech’s health This is teamwork. The more relaxed you are, the better and safer the service will be. 💬 Did you know tension affects nail work this much? 💬 Comment YES or NO 💾 Save this — it matters ➕ Follow — education comes first

Removal shouldn't take you ages! You likely just need to tweak your technique in one of these 3 common mistakes ⬇️ ❌️ Too low speed - causes you to apply more pressure to remove. Heat spikes can occur and bit can "jump", creates uneven removal, can accidentally dig into nail plate. This is the most common mistake I see ‼️ ✅️ Higher RPMs - I run my green/purple band removal bits at 35,000. This will allow the bit to do the work for you, smoother removal (makes prep quicker), less heat spikes ❌️ Dull bit - dull bits are unsafe! They're not cutting through the product as well, causing you to apply more pressure. Removal takes longer. ✅️ Sharp bits will shave off product effortlessly. These do not last forever- replace your bit the second you feel the need to apply more pressure to remove product ❌️ Inconsistent pattern - if you're doing a completely different removal pattern on every nail, you can't create muscle memory ✅️ Removal pattern might seem silly - but creating muscle memory allows you to master that removal, and work quickly without overthinking. Pick a pattern and stick to it! Would you like to learn more tips for hard gel? FOLLOW my page 🫶🏻 #nails #removalnails #gelnails #gelmani #russianmani

Flame bits don’t stay sharp forever 🔪 When they dull, they stop cutting cleanly — so you compensate with pressure. More pressure = more friction. More friction = heat, micro-trauma, and those subtle rings of fire that shouldn’t be there. Your client won’t know your bit is blunt. But they will feel the heat😖🔥 High-level techs don’t just upgrade products. They replace tools before they compromise the nail plate. When did you last change yours? 🤔

If your client’s nails are burning, that’s not normal. Full stop. Burning, flinching, “it’s a bit hot”, little red rings on the nail plate… none of that is something you push through. That’s not them being sensitive. That’s technique sis. Friction damage will thin the nail plate, create sensitivity, and destroy your retention and straight up, just burn. Nine times out of ten it’s either; Too much pressure Holding the bit in one spot too long Wrong speed Dull bits Safe e-file work isn’t advanced. It’s foundational.
