You need to know this camera setting if you work in the studio. It’s called exposure simulation, sometimes exposure preview or setting effect — different names, same function. And yes, you should change it depending on the light you use. If you work with flash, turn it OFF. If you work with continuous light, turn it ON. Why? Because this setting controls what you see on your screen before you take the photo. When it’s ON, your camera shows you the real brightness based on your current settings. That’s perfect for continuous light, because what you see is very close to what you’ll get. But with flash, the camera cannot “see” the flash before it fires, so if this setting is ON, your screen may look very dark and confusing. That’s why with flash, it’s better to turn it OFF. In a working studio, seamless gets used, stepped on, taped, cut, and replaced. That’s normal. I am always looking for ways to save in my studio! The light does the heavy lifting anyway. Photographers… story time. The other day a client showed up for a studio session and I realized my pink seamless was literally at the END of the roll. Like… not enough for my client to stand on. Old me would have panicked and mentally added 60 extra minutes of Photoshop time for this gallery. Because yes, I can extend a backdrop manually. But it’s tedious. Instead? One click. I opened the image in Evoto and used the background distraction removal tool. It extended the pink paper instantly. This video is ONE click. Not a before and after edit marathon. One click. Work smarter. Not harder. Not sponsored. I just genuinely use it on almost every session. It does cost money, but for me it’s absolutely worth it. And it’s cheaper than a private editor 🤪. Creativity is rarely the real problem. What most photographers actually struggle with is understanding light + direction in posing. In maternity photography especially, these two things change everything: 1. Light placement decides mood Soft side light = depth + emotion Flat front light = no dimension 2. Pose direction shapes confidence It’s not about complicated poses. It’s about micro-adjustments — chin tilt, shoulder angle, hand placement, weight shift. 3. Connection > pose list The best images happen when the mom feels comfortable, not when you rush through poses. 4. Simplicity always wins One light. One pose. Small refinements. That’s where magic happens. Most photographers already have creativity. Refining technique is what unlocks it ✨ Save this for your next maternity session 🤍

Printed backdrops have played such a huge role in my creativity, my set designs, and the options I’m able to offer my clients in studio.
