La nueva campaña “Pause Before You Post”, de @dpcireland , advierte sobre los riesgos del sharenting en una era donde la tecnología avanza más rápido que la protección infantil. Hoy, los padres publican en promedio 63 fotos de sus hijos al mes, y apenas 20 imágenes son suficientes para que una IA genere un deepfake convincente.
Lo más alarmante: la mitad de las fotos de niños encontradas en foros criminales provienen originalmente… de las propias publicaciones de los padres.

ESLa Data Protection Commission Ireland ha lanzado la campaña “Pause Before You Post” para concienciar a los padres sobre los riesgos de compartir fotos y datos de sus hijos en redes sociales, práctica conocida como sharenting.
La iniciativa llega en un contexto donde la tecnología avanza más rápido que las medidas de protección infantil y donde la información publicada por los adultos puede ser utilizada de manera maliciosa.
Según datos difundidos por la DPC, los padres publican en promedio 63 fotos de sus hijos al mes, y apenas 20 imágenes son suficientes para que un sistema de inteligencia artificial genere un deepfake convincente.
La campaña advierte que detalles aparentemente inofensivos, como nombre, fecha de nacimiento, uniforme escolar, horarios y amistades, pueden ser recolectados y utilizados por algoritmos para reconstruir la vida de un menor “pieza por pieza”.
La DPC recalca que, en un mundo donde los sistemas de IA pueden rastrear rostros, hábitos y ubicaciones en cuestión de segundos, cada foto publicada puede convertirse en un dato permanente, replicable y manipulable.
“Lo que hoy se comparte con buena intención puede convertirse mañana en una exposición irreparable para el niño”, señalan desde la DPC.
El fenómeno del sharenting no solo tiene implicaciones de privacidad sino también legales y sociales. Expertos advierten que la sobreexposición digital de menores puede derivar en suplantación de identidad, acoso online, robo de información personal y manipulación de imágenes, incluyendo la creación de contenido sexualizado mediante inteligencia artificial.
Organizaciones internacionales destacan que más del 80 % de los bebés ya tienen presencia digital antes de cumplir seis meses, a través de publicaciones de sus padres.
Lo más alarmante es que la mitad de las fotos de niños encontradas en foros criminales provienen originalmente de publicaciones realizadas por los propios padres.

Every cute photo.
Every birthday post.
Every school uniform, street sign, bedroom wall in the background.
Piece by piece, we are building a searchable, permanent file on our children, for strangers, platforms and systems that don’t love them, don’t protect them and don’t forget them.
This is exactly what I mean when I tell parents that posting their kids on social media is dangerous.
Not dramatic. Not anti-technology. Just honest about risk.
Before your next “proud parent” post, ask yourself:
Does my child have a say in this?
What data am I giving away about where they live, study, play?
Would I still hit “post” if this image ended up in the wrong hands, in the wrong context, years from now?
Pause. Then decide.
Their digital footprint is not a toy, and it’s not content.

RESharenting is the habitual sharing of personal information, photos and videos by parents of their children online.
A digital parenting survey conducted in 2024 by the international Digital Education Working Group of the Global Privacy Assembly highlighted “sharenting” as an important emerging topic that is proving harmful to children’s rights and personal data.
In November 2025, the DPC launched its “Pause Before You Post” campaign to raise awareness of the potential risks and consequences of “sharenting”.
The objective of this campaign is to raise awareness of the risks associated with parents posting their children’s personal data online.
