Goal for 2024: ‘Fluffy’ pays her vet bills💰🐈 Pay transparency is so important in the creator community, as we are often taken advantage of by brands that think we don’t know our worth. Reminder: you can’t pay your bills with free cat toys or treat samples. If you’re still accepting gifts as payment from brands, stop. You deserve to be paid for your work! 💖 ⚠️Some disclosures about how we earn this income⚠️ 1. The majority of our income comes from working with brands and creating ads for them on Instagram & TikTok. We also make money from selling merch & accessories. 2. As of July 2023, we began to make money via Instagram subscriptions and from ads on Facebook reels. This is still currently a very small part of our income, but we are excited that we are finally earning money from some of our video views! We currently do not make money from YouTube or Instagram reels. 3. We turn down a LOT of brand deals. We only work with brands that we use or think that our audience would enjoy. They also need to align with our rates and pay fairly for our work. Because of this, we usually do an average of 2 ads per month (or less). 4. We almost never accept brand gifts as payment and do not include any gifts or freebies in the total for our income mentioned above. Important to note: gifted collabs where you are required to post about the product in exchange for a gift DO count as income, and you need to pay tax on them. We are of course grateful to be in a position of being able to create fun content for you as a full time job, but remember that it is exactly that: a full time job! Pay transparency is coming 👀 @adp_canada recently released their Canadian Workplace Trends for 2026 guidebook, and one key takeaway is that pay transparency is becoming a business standard, thanks to new rules and regulations. Pay transparency = when employers openly share information about a job’s salary range, and how pay decisions are made. In Ontario, Canada specifically, as of January 2026, new rules are requiring employers to: ➡️ Include compensation or a pay range in publicly posted job advertisements ➡️ Mandatory notifications of hiring decisions ➡️ Other requirements related to vacancy disclosure and AI-use disclosure These changes are great for candidates, but these new updates also mean that employers are now in a better position to build trust, attract talent, and remain competitive. All for the sake of ✨pay transparency✨ This is our second full year on Instagram, and we wanted to be transparent about how much we earned from our social media. A small amount comes from commission when someone uses my link to purchase a product, and the vast majorly of them comes from partnering with brands, or creating UGC (videos for brands to use in their socials or website). It’s hard for me to tell if these numbers look expected, or fair, or high, or low because sharing information regarding pay in this industry feels a bit taboo (as it is in probably any other industry as well). Not included in the numbers are any gifted items, and all numbers are pre-tax. We have to set aside a percentage of the earned amount to pay taxes I hope this helps fellow creators friends get paid fairly for your creative work! And a giant THANK YOU to the few friends who helped me set rates, read contracts, and get paid fairly for my work 😊 you know who you are! #creators #dogmomlife

Super nervous to share this but I’m all for pay transparency in the creator industry! 💸🤳 So here’s how much I made in brand deals as a part time creator… I’ve been on social media for over 10 years and have had many ups and downs. After moving back to Melbourne in 2020 I started working on my socials, creating more content, trying trends and making myself more “marketable”. I’ve been doing brand collabs for a while but finally managed to find a steady(ish) flow in 2023. This allowed me to FINALLY quit retail (after a looong 7 years 😂) and take up a part time job in an industry I enjoy. Super grateful to have worked with so many dream brands and amazing agencies who’ve truly looked after me and my content. Pay transparency isn’t just about fairness, it’s about creating a better workplace, boosting employee morale, and driving economic growth. By shedding light on salaries, we can empower workers to negotiate for fair compensation, help employers attract and retain top talent, and contribute to a more equitable and prosperous society. I can’t tell you how many cases I negotiated and litigated based on unequal pay that violated federal and state laws. Some employers would rather skirt the law and take chances than pay employees equitably. Although more states are adopting pay transparency laws that does not mean that employers are complying in good faith. I’ve seen a few posts where the range spans $20,000 to $50,000 dollars. That’s a huge difference!
