JHLa enfermedad de Legg-Calvé-Perthes, también conocida como enfermedad de Perthes, es una afección de la cadera que afecta principalmente a niños. Se produce cuando se interrumpe el suministro de sangre a la cabeza del fémur, lo que puede llevar a la muerte del tejido óseo (necrosis avascular). Esta interrupción puede causar deformación de la cabeza del fémur y potencialmente problemas a largo plazo, como artritis de cadera en la edad adulta.
¿Qué ocurre en la enfermedad de Legg-Calvé-Perthes?
La enfermedad de Perthes afecta la articulación de la cadera, específicamente la cabeza del fémur, que es la parte superior del hueso del muslo que encaja en la cavidad de la pelvis. Normalmente, esta articulación se mueve suavemente, pero en la enfermedad de Perthes, el flujo sanguíneo a la cabeza del fémur se ve afectado, lo que puede llevar a la muerte del tejido óseo. ARWhile my main focus is on raising awareness for ARFID, we also face mobility challenges with our eldest daughter.
At the age of 3, she was diagnosed with Perthes Disease, and at the time, we had no idea what it was. I’ll never forget celebrating Arlo’s welcome-to-the-world party, only to then experience two of the hardest weeks of our lives. Watching these videos breaks my heart, but just like ARFID, many people are unaware of Perthes Disease.

TMHá exatamente um ano nossa vida mudou. Receber o diagnóstico de Legg-Calvé-Perthes no Guizinho foi como levar um choque da vida… de repente, tudo virou cuidado, atenção e oração.
É difícil explicar a dor de uma mãe e de um pai ao ver seu filho, tão pequeno, limitado em coisas que para outras crianças parecem tão simples: correr, pular, brincar livremente. A infância pede movimento, mas, por enquanto, a dele precisa de paciência, tratamento e fé.
Foram meses de lágrimas, consultas e adaptações. Mas também foram meses de descobertas: descobri que meu filho é um guerreiro, que dentro dele existe uma força maior do que qualquer limitação.
Descobri que Deus nunca nos abandona, mesmo nos dias mais difíceis, tudo tem seu propósito e o seu tempo de acontecer, e que Ele já preparou um milagre para nós.
O Guizinho tem nos ensinado sobre coragem, resiliência e esperança. Ele é raro, é forte, é especial. E nós cremos e decretamos, que ele já está curado.
Agradeço a Deus, ao meu marido por tanta paciência, dedicação, cuidado e principalmente ser tão forte diante de tudo. Sempre transmitindo uma calma, uma fé enorme para me ajudar a ser forte sempre.
Agradeço imensamente a minha família que caminha ao nosso lado, ao nosso pastor Pedro Luz, e a igreja, irmãos e amigos que nos fortalece em orações, e também ao médico Dr. Epitácio Rolim, que nos guia com sabedoria, às tias que cuidam dele com tanto carinho nos tratamentos e no dia a dia da escola.
Cada gesto de apoio é combustível para seguirmos em frente.
O caminho não tem sido fácil, mas sei que logo veremos o fim dessa fase. E então o Guizinho vai poder correr, brincar e viver tudo aquilo que uma criança da idade dele merece porque o nosso testemunho será lindo, e a glória será toda de Deus.

‼️The short version of this caption is - a child who is limping without an obvious reason needs a medical review ‼️
There are so many potential causes of children limping without an obvious cause, some of those include:
🦵 Transient Synovitis
Inflammation of a joint, most commonly the hip, that usually follows a viral upper respiratory tract infection.
🦠 Septic Arthritis
A bacterial infection of a joint. This is a serious condition that may require an operation to clean the joint out and needs a decent course of antibiotics.
😫 Perthes disease
A condition affecting mostly 3-11 year olds where the top of the thigh bone loses its blood supply and the bone becomes damaged
😬 Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis
Condition that happens mostly after the age of ten and is slightly more common in boys where the top of the thigh bone literally slips off the bone at the growth plate
❌ Very rarely an unexplained limp can be a presenting sign of serious childhood illnesses like cancer. This is very rare and I’m not saying it to frighten but to encourage you to take your limping child seriously and get them seen
These are just a few examples of causes but you should always be reviewed face to face by a medical professional if your child is limping with no cause
