What is Downsizing anyway?🤨 ✨During the initial healing phase of a piercing, the body may experience localized swelling. Using longer jewelry allows room for this swelling, so you’re not risking embedding (where your ear wants to eat the jewelry & grow over it). However, once the swelling subsides, continuing to wear longer jewelry can lead to excess movement/friction and possibly irritation bumps (what people like to call ‘keloids’). Your piercing can also shift & become crooked; especially if the long post is being slept on. ✨Downsizing helps maintain a snug fit, minimizing the chances of catching or snagging the jewelry, which can cause trauma & possibly make you lose your jewelry.. 😇 It’s a crucial step in the aftercare process to support optimal healing and long-term comfort.
