5 things I wish I knew before I started teaching Pilates… 1️⃣ We never stop learning in this job. Just because an Instructor has been teaching for a longer time, doesn’t always mean they are going to be more knowledgeable. Do your OWN research and have faith in your knowledge. 2️⃣ You will attract the right clients for you. I truly believe this and have experienced it myself. You attract your tribe… don’t try to please everyone. Just be yourself. 3️⃣ Instructors have different styles and different flares. Just because you think someone else is great, doesn’t mean you need to imitate. The best instructors I find are just being themselves. Bring your unique flare to the table. 4️⃣ Programming takes timeeee. Build effective, seamless classes. Be smart with your weekly planning. It does get easier as you gain experience and build your exercise library in your head. 5️⃣ When it comes to style there is no right or wrong. Teach the style that feels good for you. Because one isn’t better than the other. What’s important is the form and progression of your clients. The style you choose to teach should just come naturally to YOU. What number do you resonate with most?

I’ve been a Pilates instructor for 6 years and this is what I wish I knew before starting my training: 1. Most studios require you to teach multiple classes in a row, anywhere from 2-5 is the average. 2. You’re constantly talking! You have to cue the entire 50 minute class non-stop. Depending on how many classes you’re teaching it’s easy to lose your voice. 3. The pay isn’t great. Some studios offer better rates than others but it’s still really hard to support yourself if this is your full time job. Most studios will also give you commission based on how many people attend your class which is great BUT there are slower seasons that impact your pay (summer travels, holidays, etc). Most instructors have to teach multiple classes PLUS take on private to make this their full time job. 4. Little to no breaks. You only get a few minutes in between classes to prep for the next class, run to the bathroom or take a quick bite of your protein bar. 5. If you want to take time off, you have to find other instructors to cover your classes. 6. You have to be standing/walking for your entire shift. 7. It’s mentally draining. Coming up with new classes/flows multiple times a week can be mentally exhausting. 8. Most studios will require you to help clean the studio during/after your shift. 9. You’re most likely going to be working early mornings, late evenings and weekends. 10. You will love most clients BUT in a way it’s still customer service and it’s not always pleasant. DESPITE all these things, I would still have chosen to become a certified Pilates instructor. You do it because you love it💗 I hope this helps! #pilates

6 truths about your Pilates instructor ✨ 1. We actually get jealous that you get to do Pilates I know it sounds funny, but it’s true 😂 We often teach at crazy hours, especially when it’s our full-time job. I personally get jealous when my clients get to move first thing in the morning while I’m already on my second or third class. 2. One hour of teaching feels like three hours of work Teaching is exhausting. We pour so much energy into every single session, creating routines, syncing music, keeping the levels right, managing the room temperature, making sure no one falls off, cueing constantly, projecting our voice, demonstrating, smiling… even on tough days. It’s a lot more than it looks. 3. Coffee is basically our lifeline ☕️ We rely on caffeine to stay alert and fully present. Our brains are working like calculators, scanning bodies, analysing movement patterns, and making constant micro-adjustments so you can move safely and effectively. 4. If we walk past you without saying anything, that’s a good thing It usually means you’re doing it really well. Our job is to correct when something’s off, so silence often equals success. We haven’t forgotten about you, you just don’t need as much hands-on attention as you think. 5. Those 10–15 minutes between classes are our recharge time After 45–50 minutes of nonstop cueing, moving, walking, and creating, we need a moment to reset. If we’re quiet between classes, please don’t take it personally - it’s so we can fully show up for the session you paid for. 6. We get sick of our own playlists Yes, really 😂 After teaching 4–5 classes back to back, hearing loud music for hours can be… a lot. Sometimes all we want after class is silence - or a simple conversation. That’s why playlists change often! That’s just six, but I hope this gives you a little perspective from our side ✨🤍 Studio: @sixthhouse_studio #pilates #reformer #instructor #fyp #trend

If you’re not training with timing… you’re missing the point of Pilates. ⏱️ Most people think Pilates is about the movement. It’s not. It’s about the timing. In this Teacher Training, we’re using the metronome to develop something deeper than choreography — we’re building neuromuscular control. When you move to a clear BPM: • your nervous system organizes • your transitions become intentional • your core responds with precision • your body stops rushing The stick challenges alignment. The beat challenges awareness. 🎶 Moving together builds true proprioception. And when the entire group locks into the same rhythm? That’s not just synchronization. That’s regulation. That’s mastery. 🔥 Pilates isn’t random reps. It’s precision under timing. And timing changes everything. If you’re serious about movement, you understand this. Comment CONTROL if you train with intention. Save this for your next session. Tag a teacher who needs to feel this. 🤍 #Pilates #PilatesReels #PilatesInstructor #PilatesTeacherTraining #PilatesEducation

Lately, it’s become a huge trend to become a Pilates Instructor and the idea of doing ‘nothing but Pilates’ has become idolised 🙄 Although it may seem all pink and pretty, here are some things you should consider before becoming an instructor ⬇️ 1. You’ll never talk as much as you do as an instructor. Using your voice for multiple hours can be quite strenuous and physically draining. Make sure to use mics when you can! 2. Maintaining your own practice can be challenging. Investing your time to teach others means sacrificing your own. Make sure to find a balanced routine that works for you! 3. There are others ways to earn money than just teaching at studios. Consider hosting your own classes: think corporate classes, online or even at your local park! Get creative and connect with other instructors 👯‍♀️ 4. Learning doesn’t stop after you finish your courses 5. You won’t be the Pilates instructor for everyone. Every instructor has a different teaching style and clients will prefer some over others. 6. Making mistakes is normal. We’re all human! 7. You don’t need to say yes to everything. If 5am classes don’t work for you, don’t do them. 8. You don’t need to have a certain body type to teach Pilates!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Long Spine | Part 1 In this teacher training segment, Long Spine is used as an assessment rather than simply an intermediate exercise. Spring selection and setup immediately reveal a client’s ability to stabilize the carriage, articulate the spine with control, and maintain lower-limb organization in the straps. Reducing spring tension increases the demand on the deep abdominals and posterior chain, while highlighting compensatory patterns. A key observation here is ankle instability, specifically a tendency toward supination, visible through malleolar misalignment. When pressure into the straps is lost, the feet disengage and the spring begins to do the work—compromising alignment and control. In Long Spine, the feet are active. Consistent strap tension, precise foot articulation, and aligned malleoli are essential to support safe and effective spinal articulation. An intermediate exercise is only appropriate when stability, alignment, and control are clearly present. #pilatesteachertraining #pilateseducation #pilatestraining #pilatesinstructors #reformerexercises
