Ever tried this? There are so many advantages of taking your own mug to the coffee shop. Here are two I care about: 1. Reduce intake of microplastics. As hot liquid is poured into the paper mug, micro and nanoplastics leach into the drink ☕️ 2. Reduce waste, this one is obvious, and we all care about that.

Ditch your takeaway coffee cups ☕❌ Most takeaway cups aren’t just paper… they’re lined with plastic, which can contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals like BPA, BPS, BPE, as well as forever chemicals like PFAS. Studies have shown that hot drinks like coffee and tea can release these chemicals and also microplastics into your beverage, with one 2025 study finding hot tea and coffee had the highest microplastic concentrations of all drinks tested. Another study estimates that a daily 300 mL takeaway coffee could result in ingesting roughly 360,000 microplastic particles over a year. The good news is that it’s simple to reduce your exposure by switching to a stainless steel, ceramic, or glass cup for your coffee or tea. Not only will you avoid unnecessary plastics and chemicals, but you’ll also cut down on single-use waste. Win, win!
