BEFinding monologues for an upcoming audition can be a great challenge and it’s something that I had a hard time with when I started out. Luckily there are so many amazing resources out there that can help you find the perfect monologue for your next audition.
Backstage.com: In addition to be an amazing place to submit for project, Backstage is also an excellent resource for finding monologues from published plays. It also provides context and you can use the customized search engine to find monologues that fit your needs.
StageAgent: This website is another great resource for finding monologues from published work and you can get these monologues for free! Also there’s a great customized search engine that will help you find specific monologues.
New Play Exchange: This is an amazing resource to have to find new, fresh plays created by living playwrights! You can find and download scripts, and even contact the writers of the scripts! It’s a fantastic place to find contemporary work and only costs $10 per year!
Reading plays: The best way to find new monologues is to read as many plays as you can! Whether it’s googling by genre or author, going to your local library or seeing new plays in your area, reading and watching plays can help spark something and help you find the perfect monologue. What I like to do is whenever I read a play and I find a good monologue, I mark it down to potentially add to my audition book.
