5 Reasons Pollinator Insects Matter (For more than just your garden!) 1. They feed the world Pollinators like bees, butterflies, and other insects help produce about one-third of the food we eat — from fruits and vegetables to nuts and seeds. 2. They support farmers & local economies Many crops depend on insect pollination, which means pollinators directly impact agriculture, jobs, and global food markets. 3. They protect biodiversity By pollinating wild plants, they keep natural ecosystems healthy and thriving — supporting birds, mammals, and entire food webs. 4. They improve nutrition Foods rich in vitamins and minerals (like berries, squash, nuts, and leafy greens) rely on pollination. No pollinators = fewer nutrient-dense foods. 5. They sustain future generations Healthy pollinator populations mean stable food systems, resilient environments, and a more secure future for all of us. Plant flowers, skip harmful pesticides, and support local beekeepers. Because when pollinators thrive, we all thrive 🦋🌾 #pollinators #savethebees #flowers #garden #landscaping

Pollinators are not just visitors, they are the quiet workforce of a healthy garden. In Central Texas, late winter drifting into spring is one of the most important planting windows. Roots establish gently, growth begins without stress, and your landscape awakens in rhythm with the season. If your goal is a garden alive with movement, consider planting: - Viburnum tinus (Laurustinus): Evergreen structure with soft winter-to-spring blooms that provide an early nectar source when little else is flowering. A gift to bees emerging from dormancy. - Scabiosa columbaria (Butterfly Blue Pincushion Flower): Delicate, long-blooming, and irresistible to butterflies. Its steady flowering bridges the seasonal gaps pollinators depend on. - Salvia greggii (Autumn Sage): A Central Texas classic for hummingbirds, thriving in heat, drought, and limestone soils. - Conoclinium greggii (Gregg’s Mistflower): A pollinator magnet known for drawing clouds of butterflies in late summer and fall. Why plant for pollinators? Because bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds sustain the ecosystems we rely on. They support food production, biodiversity, and the resilience of our environment. A pollinator-friendly garden is not just beautiful, it participates in restoration. If you’re planning your spring planting in Austin or the surrounding Hill Country, our team is here to help you select plants that truly thrive in our climate. 🐝🌸 Spring Pollinator Pathway (Bloom Sequence Idea) 🌸🐝 Pollinators need food from the very first warm days of spring—so think of your garden like a flower buffet that stays open for months! 🍽️🌼 Here’s the easy way to plan it: 🌷 Plant a few early bloomers 🌸 Add some mid-spring flowers 🌺 Finish with late-spring bloomers 👉 So something is always flowering! 🏡 Even a small strip, balcony, or a few pots can make a big difference. 🚫 Skip pesticides (even “natural” sprays) while plants are blooming. 💧 Bonus: Add a shallow water dish with pebbles for safe sipping. Small space. Big impact. 💛 Let’s help our bees, butterflies & other pollinators thrive this spring! 🌿✨ #PollinatorGarden #SpringFlowers #BeeFriendly #GardenTips #BalconyGarden OrganicGardening GrowWithNature SpringGardening

“Because your garden is part of something bigger.” 🌼🌍 When you invite pollinators, you’re not just growing flowers, you’re supporting life. Bees, butterflies, and other tiny workers keep ecosystems balanced and food systems alive. One blooming plant can become a safe stop for a tired bee. One pesticide-free space can make a real difference. 🌿✨ Your garden can be a refuge, not just a decoration. Have you planted anything that attracts pollinators lately? 🐝💛 #PollinatorGarden #EcoFriendlyFact #SaveTheBees #GardenWithPurpose #SustainableLiving #GrowForNature 🌸🌿

Not long now until our gardens in the UK will be looking something like this! This is my garden at the beginning of April last year and I’m super excited to see what’s coming this year! Bulbs bursting into life after a very chilly and grey winter are a much welcomed sight in early Spring. A once dormant border comes alive with vibrant colour and the buzz of pollinators, who are equally as glad to see some flowers! It is as important now more than ever to plant early flowering bulbs and to support our incredible pollinators, as we see a decline in their numbers. Something as simple as a pot by the front door, planted with layers of different bulbs to create a successional planting scheme, will hugely benefit pollinators. If more space is available, large drifts of bulbs through a border have stunning visual impact, and also provide essential food sources for bees, hoverflies and early bumblebees. I’ve planted loads in my lawn or my mini meadow as I like to call it which is just starting to come back to life! ⸻ ABOUT: Joe Perkins Design is a multi-award-winning landscape design consultancy, creating innovative outdoor spaces that celebrate the environment, wildlife, and biodiversity. Pollinators are some of the hardest workers in the garden. 🐝 Every visit helps plants reproduce, supports biodiversity, and contributes to the food we grow. Creating a pollinator-friendly garden doesn’t require much — just thoughtful planting and fewer chemicals. Small actions, big ecological impact 🌿 Have you spotted bees and bumblebees in your garden recently? #pollinators #bees #bumblebee #gardenlife #biodiversity

One bloom is not a pollinator plan. Pollinators don’t need “a flower.” They need overlap—early, mid, and late-season blooms so there’s food when they emerge, raise young, and prep for winter. Zone reality (US): Zones 3–5: Plan now (very limited bloom outdoors) Zone 6: Watch for earliest bloom windows on warm spells Zones 7–9: Early bloom season is already starting in many areas A strong pollinator garden is built on succession timing, not color matching. #pollinaorgqrden #gardening101 #easygarden

I don’t believe in eliminating lawns completely. Kids need space to run, play, and be barefoot. But keeping 100% lawn isn’t necessary. Even removing a small portion of lawn and replacing it with native plants can:• support pollinators• improve soil health• reduce water and chemical use• reconnect a garden with nature You don’t have to choose between a functional yard and a healthy planet. There’s room for both.
