Communities affected include Beth Avraham Yoseph and Shaarei Shomayim Congregation in Toronto, Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, the Synagogue of Liège in Belgium, the Trondheim Synagogue in Norway, and the A.B.N. Davidsplein Synagogue in Rotterdam.
And yet after attacks like these, the same explanation often appears.
“It’s not antisemitism. It’s just anti-Zionism.”
But when Jewish institutions across multiple countries are being targeted, that distinction quickly falls apart.
These are not symbols of a distant geopolitical conflict. They are local Jewish communities.
And right now, many Jews are scared, with good reason.
If six Jewish institutions can be targeted in a single week and the conversation still insists this has nothing to do with antisemitism, the problem is not just the violence.

BIAccording to @jfederations, Americans Jews have to pay $775m annually just to feel safe in our own houses of worship. Thank goodness security at Temple Israel helped prevent what would have been a mass casualty terror attack (targeting small children). But as @amyspitalnick notes: “The more we allow it to be okay that we require this insane level of security to keep the jewish community safe, the more and more anti-semitic hate and violence becomes normalized.”
