NAA poem that will jump off the page – and fly into space ✨
@LibraryCongress’s U.S. Poet Laureate @AdaLimonWriter, who is known for work that explores the human connection to the natural world, is crafting a new poem dedicated to @NASASolarSystem’s Europa Clipper mission.
Her poem, to be released in the coming months, will be engraved on the Europa Clipper spacecraft, which will travel 1.8 billion miles on its journey to the Jupiter system. The spacecraft is currently under construction at @NASAJPL, and is set to launch from @NASAKennedy in October 2024. It will go into orbit around the gas giant by 2030, conduct multiple flybys of Jupiter’s icy moon Europa, and gather observations on what is considered to be one of the most promising places in the solar system to look for life beyond Earth.
Limón was appointed 24th Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry by Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden in 2022. Born in Sonoma, California, and of Mexican ancestry, she is the author of several poetry collections and has won awards for her writing. The Library of Congress Poetry and Literature Center is the home of Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry, a position that has existed since 1937. The Library of Congress is the world’s largest library, offering access to the creative record of the United States, as well as extensive materials from around the world, both on site and online.
