The best camera is the one in your pocket. Do you have an iPhone 15 Pro, 16 Pro or 17 Pro series? If you do, you can already shoot Apple Log - either natively in the Camera app (Settings → Camera → Formats → Enable Apple Log) or the way I prefer, using the Blackmagic Camera app for even better control. Apple Log captures huge dynamic range, but it looks flat until you grade it. Here’s the cheat code 👇 📱 Shoot in LOG (iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max) Switch to ProRes LOG in settings — this gives you flat footage with way more detail, dynamic range, and color control when editing. (It’ll look washed out at first… that’s normal.) 🎥 Lock your settings • 4K at 24fps for that cinematic look • Lower your exposure slightly (avoid blown highlights on paint) • Use manual focus + exposure lock (AE/AF lock) 🌤️ Lighting matters more than anything Golden hour > harsh midday sun. Soft light = clean reflections + better color. 🎨 Color grade your LOG footage Use a LUT or tweak contrast, shadows, and saturation to bring the image back to life. This is where the magic happens. 📤 Export the RIGHT way (this is key) • 4K resolution • High bitrate (at least 40–60 Mbps) • H.264 or HEVC • Keep frame rate consistent (don’t convert 24 → 30) 🔥 Bonus: Upload using WiFi + “High Quality Uploads” turned ON in Instagram settings Do this right and your car edits will instantly stand out 🚗💨 Save this for your next shoot. #cargram #carspotter #highquality #automotive

I also turn on grid lines and shoot my videos in 4K 60fps so I have the ability to slow them down in post. Shooting in log format gives you far more dynamic range in your footage and really improves your ability to colour grade and edit your files to your liking.
