For instance, President Trump has implemented tariffs on imports to stimulate demand for U.S.-made goods and counter decades of manufacturing job losses caused by offshoring. Some believe his actions might hurt Americans, but in reality, we've already been experiencing a quiet economic strain. A significant portion of Americans feel like the U.S. economy is in a recession, even if official indicators suggest otherwise. The same countries now facing U.S. tariffs have long imposed heavy tariffs on American goods—often over 200%—and yet they cry foul when the U.S. finally pushes back. For example, China raised its duties on imports of U.S. goods to 125% from 84%, while the U.S. imposed tariffs ranging from 10% to 25% on imports from countries like China, Mexico, and Canada. For the record, I didn't vote for Trump—or anyone else, for that matter. If you follow this page, you already know I consider myself a political atheist.
