When you pull a back muscle, your first instinct is to stretch it out. That is NOT what you should be doing!!! Think about a pulled muscle like a tear… the last thing we want to do is pull more! The best thing we can do is take some stress out of the muscle so it can relax. If you pull a lower back muscle, loosen up your glutes so they’re not pulling on your back muscles. Then, redirect the stress by engaging your hamstrings with some hip hinges; this will take the tension out of your back and redirect it into your leg muscles that can handle it.
