KAMicrosoft just made a massive breakthrough that will change technology forever.
It’s called the Majorana 1, a quantum chip that’s the first of its kind in quantum computing.
And what this thing can do is absolutely insane.
Imagine a world where you could invent concrete that could heal itself.
Or you could design a phone battery that could be charged one time, and then never run out of juice.
That sounds like science fiction, but it’s not.
This chip is gonna make it possible with quantum computing.
Here’s how quantum computing works (ELI5).
Imagine the process to invent the material for an infinite battery was actually a giant maze.
If you solve the maze, you invent the formula for a new battery technology.
A normal computer would have to try every single pathway in the maze, one at a time.
And it could take centuries to find the right path all the way through.
But a quantum computer works differently, because it can try every single path in the maze at the same time.
This is essentially the difference between a bit and a qubit (the quantum bits that power quantum computers)
Now this new Majorana chip has an architecture that can sustain up to 1 million qubits at the same time.
That’s 1 million different pathways through the maze, every moment, until it’s solved.
And what this means, is pretty incredible.
When a scientist goes into a lab to create a material or a design new drug, they won’t need to run experiments.
Because this chip will just give them the right answer the very first time.
And It’s hard to wrap your head around what this means, but essentially, it’s new medicines, new iPhone screens that can never crack, new metals for planes that fly at supersonic speeds.
Everything will change because of quantum computers.
And we just entered the Quantum Era.

Here in the video we discussed a paper “Option pricing using Quantum computers” where authors presented a methodology to price options and portfolios of options on a gate-based quantum computer using amplitude estimation, an algorithm which provides a quadratic speedup compared to classical Monte-Carlo methods.
➡️Black-Scholes equation. The main idea behind the equation is to hedge the option by buying and selling the underlying asset in a specific way to eliminate the risk of fluctuations in a stochastic process of stock market price.
It is fascinating how the tools are used in quant finance and quantum finance are deeply connected to physics.
If you get an education in physics, math, quantum, you can be a very valuable asset in this banking industry.
I am personally very much interested in variety of quantum computing applications for future quantum advantages. 🚀

CLWhat’s going on with Microsoft’s new quantum chip? It be a huge deal but there’s a big debate about it! Here’s why...
The reason we want quantum computers is they could do new things, like simulate the natural world even better. The reason we don’t have useful ones yet is that they need to be bigger. But the problem is when you make them bigger, they have more errors. That’s because the information inside, the “qubits,” are incredibly sensitive and they get disrupted easily.
So Microsoft tried to build a new kind of qubit - a “topological qubit” - where instead of storing the information in one place, they spread it out using a new state of matter called “majorana quasi-particles.”
That’s awesome because in theory you could get fewer errors with a bigger quantum computer, because if you mess with one part, you still have the information in another!
The big claim in their press release is that they have not only created these new qubits but can control them. BUT nobody outside of Microsoft has seen proof of the controlling part. In their peer reviewed paper, they show results that are consistent with Majorana quasi-particles, but don’t definitively prove that’s what they’re seeing.
So what they’ve already shown is big, and what they MIGHT show is huge if true.
