If you agree, my guess is you probably learned to sew garments before you learned to quilt. My mom taught me how to sew when I was a little girl and we practiced with pajama pants and skirts that always called for pressing seams open. When I learned to quilt, I just couldn’t get the hang of doing it any other way. I love how flat my quilt top is when it’s pressed! Tell me below, are you a press seams open or press to the dark side kind of quilter?

I’m often asked whether I sell the things I make and I mostly don’t. And the few times Ive tried to explain the why, I always feel like it’s being perceived that I’m full of myself when I explain the actual cost. Like being compensated for the materials and also my time is something to be embarrassed about. And we always undervalue our time. Like all of us do it. As if knowing our worth is egotistical or something. It’s just a weird uncomfortable tango when pricing an item, so I don’t. I apppaud @karleeporterdesign for this video because it’s such important information for all of us to recognize, makers and buyers alike. Love you mean it. #quiltersofinstagram #quiltersgonnaquilt

After months of working on this project ( so you don’t have too 😜), I am delighted to present my New Foundation Paper Piecing Pattern “Girl With The Pearl Earring” based on the 1665 famous oil painting by Dutch Golden Age painter Johannes Vermeer. It would be a dream to see her one day!❤️ With this project I aimed to create as much visual complexity as possible while at the same time simplifying the construction to piece it together. Using only 15 fabrics of color, I wanted to highlight her poignant stare while throwing in fun and vibrant colors. IT WAS SO FUN! This Quilt Measures 60x60, has 76 Paper Piecing Units, and 563 fabric shapes. This pattern is available in 3 forms: (1) PDF Download, (2) Paper Pattern and (3) Quilt Kit. The Quilt Kits are available for a limited time while supplies last. Essentially it’s a smaller more affordable option than a Long arm quilting machine, and I am absolutely super super excited about discovering it. You put your domestic sewing machine onto the base, set it to free motion quilting, and then use the handle bars on the base to move the machine all around your fabric! I am using my trusty @pfaffuk creative 3.0 I discovered the Cutie in November whilst visiting the knitting and stitching show and meeting @jbsewingmachines . I’ve had so many ideas of what I’d like to try with it but as always there is never enough time, I am very excited to finally have it set up and get started on something (if I can move past my decision paralysis anyway!) What would you make? I’m thinking my first project is going to be quilted joggers and a jumper - because it’s just so cold right now! Have you tried Flange Binding on your quilt yet? Cut 2 different stripes of fabric one for the flange (1 3.4”) + main binding (1 1/2”) Place right sides together and sew with 1/4 “ seam Press seams Fold in half and press (now you should see flange) Place flange side right side up and sew on back Flip over and flange should show on this side. Now stitch in the ditch.
