SPTeaching the R sound doesn’t have to be boring! Try using Play-Doh, a big mouth model, hand motions, and fun metaphors to help children understand tongue placement and tension.
Here’s how we break it down:
1️⃣ Stretch the tongue wide
2️⃣ Touch the top teeth, retract, and add tension—building the ‘muscle’ for a strong R sound.
3️⃣ Once the articulators are in place, we turn on our voice to produce a crisp and clear R.
There’s no need to overwhelm kids with technical terms—fun, visual cues, and metaphors make all the difference.
