Can you spot the red sprites? I can’t believe I’ve never shared this timelapse here. I did share the pictures though. This is the original timelapse captured in Southern Texas, not foo far from Fort Stockton. We chased this supercell for a few hours until night time, but because of the roads, and since we didn’t want to end up in Mexico, we let the storm go away to capture the stars. But we didn’t expect to have the Milky Way core at the perfect spot right above the storm in the distance. On top of that, it created some cool red sprites that you can see on 3 images (yes, it’s pretty quick on the timelapse, but you can find the pictures on my feed). What a cool experience for my first day storm chasing. #Thunderstorm #redsprite #Texas #Timelapse #lightning #milkyway #astro #astrotimelapse

Red Sprite is a mysterious atmospheric phenomenon. These large-scale electrical discharges occur in clusters above the troposphere, 50 to 90 km (30-55 miles) high. Reported for about 200 years, the science community finally accepted their existence in 1994 when the first clear image was taken. Sprites are colorless to the eye, just a patch of light flashing in the sky, but a sensitive camera reveals the true color and details. They are challenging to capture, as they only appear for a fraction of a second, far fainter than a lightning. Captured these in timelapse from West Texas in May 2019. On that midnight a massive active thunderstorm cloud was on the horizon, 100 to 200 kilometers away, and sky above it was clear, the conditions for seeing the sprite. Japonya'da Fuji Dağı'nda aynı anda hem kızıl cin (red sprite) hem de göktaşı görüldü. ❓️ “Red sptrite” veya Türkçe adıyla “Kızıl Cin” (Halk arasında kırmızı şimşek veya kırmızı yıldırım), fırtına bulutlarının üst katmanında ve 65-95 kilometre yükseklikte şimşek ve yıldırım benzeri elektrik boşalması esnasında, nötr azot moleküllerden geçen elektrik akımının sonucunda, 3-10 milisaniyede oluşan kırmızı turuncu renk tonlarındaki parlaklıktır. Red sprite veya kızıl cin, 3-10 milisaniye gibi kısa sürede gerçekleştikleri için çok ender görüntülenebilmektedir. Bu ilginç doğa olayı İyonosfer’deki düzensizlikler sonucu oluştuğu söylenmekle birlikte henüz kesin bilgi elde edilememiştir.
