1️⃣ Completely written by AI ❌
If it sounds generic, it probably is. AI can help you edit and refine, but when it writes the whole thing, it often strips out your personality, context and impact. Don't do it!
2️⃣ Not curated, tailored or keyword aligned ❌
One resume does not fit every job. If you’re sending the same version everywhere, you’re missing a huge opportunity. Each application should reflect the language of the job ad, include the right keywords, and clearly align your experience to what they’re asking for. This helps with ATS screening and makes it immediately obvious you’re a match.
3️⃣ Not actually selling you ❌
A list of duties is not a sales document. Where are the achievements? The outcomes? The skills you bring that solve problems?
4️⃣ Old-fashioned design and formatting ❌
Tiny font, dense paragraphs, outdated templates, too many graphics. Your resume needs to be clean, contemporary and easy to scan in 8 seconds.
5️⃣ Too many personal details ❌
Full address. Date of birth. Marital status. A photo. None of this is required in Australia, and it doesn’t strengthen your application.
Your resume isn’t a biography.
It’s a strategic marketing document.
