Robin Trower turns 81 today. Born March 9, 1945, in London, England, Trower is one of rock’s most soulful and influential blues-rock guitarists, known for his powerful tone, emotional phrasing, and Hendrix-inspired style.
Trower first gained international attention as the guitarist for Procol Harum, appearing on several albums during the band’s late-1960s and early-1970s era. After leaving the group, he launched a hugely successful solo career that established him as a major figure in blues-based rock guitar.
His breakthrough solo album Bridge of Sighs (1974) became a classic of the genre, featuring soaring guitar tones, deep grooves, and some of the most expressive playing of the era. The record remains one of the most respected blues-rock albums ever released.

“A Whiter Shade of Pale” is a song by the English rock band Procol Harum that was issued as their debut record on 12 May 1967. The single reached number 1 in the UK Singles Chart on 8 June and stayed there for six weeks. Without much promotion, it reached number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100.One of the anthems of the 1967 Summer of Love, it is one of the most commercially successful singles in history, having sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.In the years since, “A Whiter Shade of Pale” has become an enduring classic, with more than 1,000 known cover versions by other artists

BLRobin Trower and his band performing “Bridge of Sighs” from the Rock Goes To College live recording, University of London Union, 1980. The sound of a swirling Uni-Vibe pedal truly never gets old. From Hendrix, to Gilmour, to Trower, the pedal played a key role in creating some of the most iconic guitar riffs.
Prior to forming his own band, Robin Trower was a member of British Psych/Prog band, Procol Harum. In 1971, he left the group to pursue some of his own musical ideas. He formed a short lived group called Jude with singer Frankie Miller, bassist/singer James Dewar, and drummer Clive Bunker. When it came to finally forming his own band he retained bassist James Dewar who also served as their lead singer (and a very underrated one). For drums he recruited Reg Isidore, and together they released their debut album Twice Removed From Yesterday (1973) and the iconic Bridge of Sighs (1974). Drummer Reg Isidore would be replaced with Bill Lordan making his debut on For Earth Below (1975).
In the early 1980s Trower teamed up with legendary bassist Jack Bruce and released two albums. One called B.L.T. (Bruce, Lordan, Trower) and another titled Truce, reuniting with drummer Reg Isidore.
Today, Robin Trower is still working hard putting out albums and touring. He has been very consistent in releasing new music since the formation of his band, a testament to true hard work and creativity.
