For years, I thought I understood OCD. I’d been in therapy, tried so many strategies, and knew all about the intrusive thoughts that felt impossible to escape. But then I learned about the ICBT concept of staying out of the OCD bubble, and everything shifted. You see, the OCD bubble is that mental space where doubts spiral, thoughts feel so urgent, and you feel like you have to figure everything out. I lived in that bubble for years, constantly trying to solve or control my intrusive thoughts. Learning to stay out of the bubble meant realizing I didn’t have to engage with OCD’s stories. It showed me that the problem wasn’t the thoughts themselves—it was the way OCD convinced me to treat them as threats instead of irrelevances. This concept changed everything for me. It gave me permission to stop analyzing, stop seeking certainty, and start living my life outside of OCD’s grip. It reminded me that I have a CHOICE in whether or not i engage in ocds story. If you’re feeling stuck in the OCD bubble, know this: you don’t have to solve your thoughts to find relief. The freedom comes from choosing not to step into the bubble in the first place. Hold the feeling. Don't suppress the feeling that is coming. Feel it. Name it. This is anxiety, guilt, shame, fear, disgust. Because as soon as you acknowledge it and you don't try to suppress it, then because of that acknowledgement, because of giving your name, your nervous system calms down. The second step is to expose gradually. You are feeling scared, OCD is stopping you, but you still have to expose gradually. Because there is only one way to finish fear, to face it. Without safety behaviors, without anyone's support, do gradual exposures. Because avoidance is fear gives strength OCD becomes stronger so we have to expose it gradually next step is align with values what is important for you what is your reality what you want to become what you want to do you have to take those steps not those which are fear driven you don't have to take those steps which are misguiding your OCD and the last step is Let uncertainty exist. Uncertainty is there and will always be there. But your brain wants 100% certainty. Which is an impossible target. It will never be achieved. So accept uncertainty, embrace it and tell your brain, maybe yes, maybe no. It can happen, it can not happen. Let me see. And when you will keep taking your actions in the presence of uncertainty, your brain will be rewired with new experiences and you will be free from your OCD loop.

When a client starts crying, here’s what’s actually happening inside a therapist’s mind: Not panic. Not discomfort. Not “oh no, I need to fix this.” It’s more like a quiet internal shift. First thought This matters. Tears mean something real just surfaced. Something honest. Something the nervous system finally felt safe enough to release. Then Stay steady. My job isn’t to rush you through it or shut it down. It’s to be regulated enough that you don’t feel alone inside it. There’s also an internal scan Are you dissociating or staying present Is this grief, relief, anger, or long held exhaustion Do I let the silence breathe or gently anchor you. At the same time I’m holding the frame. Watching your breathing. Tracking your body language. Making sure the moment doesn’t tip into overwhelm. And quietly I’m honored. Because tears usually show up when someone has stopped performing and started telling the truth. What I’m not thinking You’re too much This is awkward You need to stop Crying in therapy isn’t a breakdown. It’s often the first sign that healing is actually happening.
