Who doesn’t love a good foam rolling sesh?? Foam rolling is a form of self-myofascial release which is, simply put, a technique for applying pressure to the muscle + connective tissue to relieve tension. Typically, I foam roll prior to my workouts + on recovery/mobility days if I feel I need it. Benefits: ✨Helps smooth out tightness in the muscles + improve range of motion ✨ Increase blood flow to the muscles ✨ Encourages muscles to return to their resting lengths + can aid in recovery/reducing muscle soreness Here are ways to get the most out of your foam rolling: ⭐️ Don’t blaze through this, take your time and consider rolling through a muscle about 1-inch every second. ⭐️ Apply moderate to light, consistent pressure. Don’t try to put your whole weight into it especially if it’s painful. ⭐️ Focus on one muscle at a time and avoid rolling over any boney areas, joints or sensitive tissue. I know… it feels good. It’s easy. It’s become everyone’s little “pre-workout ritual.” But let’s be real.. it’s mostly a temporary nervous system effect, not a structural change. Research shows foam rolling can improve your range *short term*… but it does nothing to actually change your muscles, tendons, or fascia long term. So if you keep rolling the same spot every day and it keeps “coming back”… That’s your sign it’s not the solution.
