Voluminous root hack ✨ Comment “root clip” and I’ll send you the direct link to check out this tool. Root clipping is nothing new, however the traditional methods involve multiple clips, some of which are metal and easily snag in my hair. Needless to say, I gave up using them a long time ago. When I saw this one and done tool all over my social channels, I figured why not try it? It’s inexpensive and I love another tool in my arsenal. So here is my feedback: PROS: ➰ Super easy to use and it slides back near my crown for lift all down the root ➰ Comes with 2 pieces so one can also be placed on the sides. ➰ The clamp is strong enough to hold still while flipping upside down and side to side, how I traditionally dry my hair. ➰ Easy to take out without snagging ➰ Definitely gave me lift and it lasted all day (Tip: be sure to apply foam/mousse near the root before drying to help with hold) CONS ➰ I have some really short pieces of fringe near the front which stood straight up when I initially finished drying ➰ As any root clip can do, this may cause a little straightening where the clip is placed. This didn’t bother me bc I have straighter roots, but it’s more obvious on the shorter front pieces. So will I use this again? Definitely. Not only did it give me lift really easily, but I also use it to keep my hair off my face while doing my makeup. Multi-purpose, which I greatly appreciate! #wavycurly #naturallywavy #rootclipping #wavyhairroutine #curlcare #curlytips

Root clipping — it can make or break your hair day (and your hair quite literally.) 😳 👉🏻This can be a great technique to dry the hair with volume and help it dry more quickly as the hair is more lifted off of your scalp, allowing you to air dry or diffuse and achieve volume. 🤩 ⚠️⚠️However, I have seen too many curlies with damage and breakage at the roots (no, it wasn’t regrowth) because the tiny 2 prong clips commonly used can easily get lost and stuck in the hair, causing frizz and damage when removing them. I reserve using the metal 2 prong clips for roller sets! ✅For curls (in my experience), this technique is best done with jaw clips to easily lift the hair while minimizing the possibility of it getting caught in your hair. I use 4-6 clips when doing this technique, starting at my front hairline to set the hair up and away from my face without crimping. 📍These particular ones are from @curlkeeper , although in theory any jaw clip can work, I like the spacing in between the prongs/teeth of these & how lightweight they are. Definitely my preferred clips, I have them linked in my amazon storefront if you want to check them out! 👇🏻Let me know what you use/your favourite trick for achieving more root lift! 🔊Have you tried root clipping for volume? I like to root clip either when when my hair is about 90% dry after diffusing, or when my hair is fully dry for a bit of added lift! If I’m at home the chances are I’ll either have a clip or two at the front of my head or my hair in a pineapple bun 😂 If you air dry, I’d recommend adding root clips as soon as you’ve finished styling as this will stop your roots from going flat throughout the drying process! I use all three of these methods depending on how I feeling on each day 🤷‍♀️ The crocodile clip only gives lift to the front section and I often use this when doing my makeup. ➡️ Both types of claw clips are from @primark ➡️ Crocodile clips are from Amazon - check my store link in bio Let me know if this helps! Root clipping is so simple and so effective! 👏👏 Great to do whether you air dry or diffuse. This is seriously such an easy and effective way to get more lift and volume in your roots. I recently showed one way to root clip when you clip down toward the scalp. In this video I’m showing another way to clip where you pull the hair up and clip from the side. This way helps to get extra bend in the roots - especially great for those who want more curl there. You can place as many clips as you want! And experiment with how long to leave them in. I like to take my clips out when my hair is about halfway dry. Save this post to try this later, and you can find my favorite alligator clips in my Amazon store. Have you tried root clipping?! Tell me about your experience.

Root clipping on wash day gets me volume and curls that last for DAYS! Insert clips, then diffuse. Be patient, I wait to remove the clips only once my hair is 95-99% dry! 👉🏻 Bonus tip for where to add the clips: Lean your head side to side, and you’ll be able to see where the hair needs lift. Then slide the root clip tightly the against scalp! Have you tried root clipping yet? Comment ROOT for my fave clips to use! #curlytutorial #curltraining #curlyvolume #rootclipping

How to style for volume at the roots 🌸 Brush styling can boost volume, but sometimes the roots need a little extra support. Hairspray or some volume powder can help a lot with hold If that’s not enough you can always try root clipping. I’ve been using the clips from @bouncecurl and they work perfect for this! You can clip before or after diffusing, depending on what works for you #fyp #curlyhairvolume #curlyhairtips #brushstyling

Here are all of my tips for the best volume! If you have fine hair like me, you will want to save this! 1. Diffuse upside down and side to side- you will want to dry your hair until it’s almost dry (make sure you don’t touch your hair with your hands until it’s completely dry or else you will get frizz). You aren’t going to get volume by air drying, I can promise you that. 2. Root clipping- I can’t say enough about this! There is a learning curve, Send but it’s worth learning. I have a bunch of video on this. But in short, make sure your hair is almost if not completely dry or else they will slide out, push up and then clamp to not pull your roots down, and the types of clips actually matter. I have tried many ditterent brands. But @curlkeeper has the best ones (I do have a code to save$:NIKKI15 ) these are lightweight and don’t clamp too tightly. If they are heavy or clamp too tightly they will fall over. 3. Scrunch out the crunch- if your hair stays in a cast it weighs your hair down and doesn’t give much volume. When you break the cast, it gives you big soft bouncy curls that make you look like you have more lift/ hair! 4. Use a Volumizing spray- I’m using the @colorwowhair Raise the Root Thicken and Lift spray. You just need a little spritz on the roots, diffuse it with warm air and then shake out your roots. It gives a little texture and helps to pump up the volume. 5. Scalp massage comb-this thing is one of my favorite tools! With gels, your hair can end up stuck to your scalp. But this handy dandy little tool helps to lift hair off the roots. And it helps to rough up the roots a little bit. 6. Pick your hair out- same concept with the scalp massage, you don’t want your hair stuck to your scalp. And if you go from underneath and push out it helps to fluff out the roots. #curlyhair #finehair #curls #curly #curlygirl #hairstyles #hairstyle #hairtips #hairtutorial #wavyhair #hairvolume

Comment “ROOTS” below and I’ll DM you more volume tips you can try this week. How often do you feel stuck with flat roots, even after doing everything right? Sucks, right? I get it. But let me share three tools that helped me break out of the “volume struggle” phase—and they might just change the game for you too: TIP #1: Root clips while drying — total cheat code for root lift. I ude the ones @bouncecurl use my code HONESTLIZ10 TIP #2: A diffuser (low heat, low speed!) — enhances pattern and volume when you do it flipped over or side to side. TIP #3: Fluffing tools — yes, just with your hands break the cast at your roots to add way more lift at the crown Are you doing any of these already? Or do you have a favorite volume trick of your own? Comment “ROOTS” below and I’ll DM you more volume tips you can try this week. #volumetips #bouncecurl #rootclipping #curlyhairproblems

How do you root clip? I’ve messed around with different clips over the years, and this one is basically, low effort. 😂 Big claw clip in the middle, and a few at the front where they can’t get tangled! 🏋🏽‍♀️ Fine and low-density hair might need a little extra help with root lift! As you can see, my hair has a looser curl pattern at the top of my head. That is NORMAL for me and might be normal for you too! So, rather than forcing it to curl, I just give it a bit of volume when I can. 🔉 It’s also worth noting that your volume might not stay in place all day - some hair will deflate in the end! If you have very “silky” roots like me, you can make it your volume last longer by incorporating a hairspray or dry shampoo, or putting a product with “grit” on your roots (check out @welshiecurlgirl’s recent posts for more about this). Or just flip your parting like I do! The claw clip I used here is from Etsy and I think I got the metal clips from Amazon - the Linktree in my bio will take you to both my wishlists if you want to check them out! ➰
