In “First Catch in Alola, Ketchum-Style!” from Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon, Ash meets a sleepy but good-hearted Rowlet who lives among a flock led by the powerful Toucannon.
Although Rowlet is part of Toucannon’s group, its clumsy, carefree nature makes it a bit of an odd fit among the disciplined flock. After Ash spends time protecting and caring for Rowlet, the flock is attacked and Ash helps defend them.
Seeing Ash’s kindness and recognizing Rowlet’s growing bond with him, Toucannon chooses not to call Rowlet back to the flock and instead allows it to leave with Ash.
With the flock’s approval, Ash catches Rowlet, who happily joins his team and begins a new journey alongside him in Alola.
