Let’s be honest about the three biggest roadblocks you might be creating for yourself: 1. Inconsistency in training and recovery. You miss workouts more frequently than you admit and don’t log as much sleep and recovery has your body needs. A great training plan is useless if you don’t stick to it and recover properly. Consistency always beats intensity. 2. You’re running in the “grey zone.” Your easy runs are too fast (leading to fatigue) and your speed work is too slow (not stimulating the right physiological adaptations). Easy means EASY, hard means HARD. 3. No Plan, No Progress. You’re picking and choosing your way through a plan you found online or mashing together random workouts from social media. A solid program is a progressive program, built specifically for you. Ready to build a solid, structured program and finally stick with it? How I’ve Improved My Running 🏃‍♂️ In the last few months, I’ve transformed my running by focusing on three key sessions: speed intervals, long slow runs, and track days. For example, I’ll do a 90-minute long run at a 5:30/km pace, covering 10 miles. Then, on track days, I hit 12 sets of 400m at a 4:00/km pace, with 30-second standing recoveries. But here’s the thing, just writing any old rubbish won’t improve your capacity. It’s about intentional, structured sessions. Small changes = big results, consistency is everything! Running is a uniquely human experience. We evolved to support running mechanics and running long distances. So much of our physiology supports the ability to endure this simple activity longer than nearly every other animal in the animal kingdom. Running is an expression of some of our most visceral emotions from joy to anger, from love to fear. Training for running performance demands us to face adversity and reevaluate our relationship with failure in order to overcome challenges that are inevitably going to show up in the process. Through this, we become better people and stronger leaders. We can test our limits both physically and mentally. We can improve self-esteem and self-worth, reinforce our values, and shift our perspective on what’s possible for us and for those around us. Running inspires. Running brings people together and builds community. Running creates escape, but it also directs focus. Here to de-complicate it all for you ! 2026 is the year you start your running journey properly. I’m a run coach and I ran 40 marathons last year. If you’re a running beginner, these are the three things I want you to focus on first. Number one. Warm up properly. All movement, no static stretching. Stretching before a run does nothing for you. A good warm up keeps you efficient, reduces niggles, and delays how much recovery you’ll need later. Number two. Easy means easy. Every run should be conversational. If you can’t talk in full sentences, you’re going too hard. You should never be finishing runs out of breath at the start of your journey. Use walk breaks if you need to. That’s smart training. Number three. Run to time, not distance. Stop chasing a 5k and go for 30 minutes instead. This shifts your mindset away from pace and comparison and onto consistency. You didn’t run a slow 5k. You successfully ran for 30 minutes straight. #runningbeginner #runcoach #runnersofinstagram #learnhowtorun #runningtips

Too many people get caught in the grey zone of running easy runs too hard to the point where you then can’t hit pace on your workouts or hitting pace feels much harder than it should be. If you wish to train consistently, year round, your training needs to be polarized in order to make continued progress over an extended period of time. 2 most common phrases I hear as a runner and a coach? “I could never run that far” and “if I’m running, you better run too because something is chasing me.” What if I told you that used to be my mindset too? I could never get past the point where running felt good until it became something I really wanted for myself. Before I knew it, running felt good and I had goals to get to. It’s been a journey to get to this point and not every run, even years into this journey, feels good. Distance can be intimidating, and training can be daunting but as a coach, it’s my job to guide you through it. New to running? I’ll start you with a run/walk program, then build from there.
