For more clarity, read this: Whether your EPF calculation changes or not depends on your company’s policy. You can request it, but they can decline. Based on public forums, some companies offer the choice to employees, others don’t. In our example we assumed that the additional contribution is adjusted from allowances. But it depends on how your company chooses to restructure your CTC. Under the New Labor Code, “uniform wage definition” = Basic + DA + Retaining Allowance. This has to be 50% of your CTC. Since DA and Retaining Allowance are rarely paid in the private sector, for most employees this practically means Basic = 50% of CTC. The government is expected to release detailed guidelines soon. Don’t worry, these reforms are most likely applicable from the next financial year, you still have some time to plan your monthly budget and investments.
