PLWhen worldbuilding starts to feel overwhelming, whether you’re writing a novel, a screenplay, or any sort of story, I usually go back to the center.
Every strong world is anchored by one idea that everything else has to answer to. Not lore. Not history. Just the core truth that gives the world its shape.
A practical way to find it is to put that truth into a single sentence. Ask yourself what idea, if removed, would make the story stop meaning anything at all.
Once you have that, it becomes a tool. When you add cultures, systems, or conflicts later, you can test them against that sentence and see if they actually belong in this world.
