HOW TO SELF RELEASE YOUR ALL IMPORTANT POPLITEUS MUSCLE This muscle, while small, plays a huge role in the biomechanics of your knee, in particular with the rotational movement required to fully flex and extend your knee. All you need is a lacrosse ball (or a baseball in a pinch…tennis ball most likely too soft, a golf ball too focalized). Find the tender trigger point and apply pressure to it with the ball while you bend your knee. Once you do, manually rotate your foot outward to fully lengthen the muscle as a “pin & stretch” style treatment. We find that 1-2 sets of 10 “reps” helps release this muscle and encourage better motion at your knee joint. Is it odd that a chiropractic office page is showing you how to treat yourself?
