This isn’t *every* step that goes into writing a book, but I feel strongly about many of these! I love brainstorming… all fun, no stakes. Anything is possible, and the spark for the story is so bright and energizing! Outlining is a bit of a task, but the organizer in me loves it, especially when I piece together scenes in satisfying ways! The first draft is fun in its own ways. But I also second guess myself a lot. But I absolutely love seeing the story come to life on the page. Revisions can be a love-hate relationship. I can get really frustrated when I find big plotholes and don’t know how to fix them, but when I do figure it out, I feel elated! When I send my book off to beta readers, I’m thrilled. Not only do I get to set this book aside for a while and pick up a new project, but I get constructive feedback that helps me strengthen my book. My book always becomes so much better after I implement changes based off of feedback. That being said, going back and doing more revisions and drafts is always a slog at this point for me. You feel so close to the finish line, but there’s still so much work to do. Line edits is really fun for me, because it’s where I get to play. The story is working, things are in the right order on the page, and now I get to play with the dialogue and the prose! But proofreading is another matter. Funny enough, I have a degree in editing, so I should enjoy this more than I do. But at this point in the book, I read through it so many times that my eyes like to glaze over the page. I do hire an editor, but I like to make it as tidy as possible before I send it off to them. Formatting is something I really love. It’s also something I learned in college for my degree, and I just have a blast making my story turned into a real book. Publishing! Need I say anything more?
