MAHow I make my shadow boxes ✂️
I’ve been getting so many lovely comments about my floral shadow boxes lately, so I thought it might be nice to share a little behind-the-scenes look at how I build my shadowboxes.
And since I’m trying some beautiful new materials for this one, it felt like the perfect moment to walk you through my process:
1. I start with a sketch and outline all the elements I want to include in my picture.
2. I paint and cut each piece one by one - in this artwork, that meant lots of flowers and two tiny houses.
3. Throughout the process, I test the layout to check that the colours work well together, the shapes don’t compete, they follow the same direction, and the overall composition feels balanced.
4. Then I paint the background layers so the colours complement what I already have in the foreground.
5. And finally, I glue everything with double-sided foam tape to add depth and soft shadows and put it in a frame.

This is my very first time using acrylic markers, and I’m genuinely so happy with the result. The palette is soft and pastel, yet still bright - and the markers are extremely easy to work with.
