Many people have at least one variety of the shingles virus. Some varieties are rashing while others are non-rashing. The virus feeds on foods like eggs, dairy, gluten, corn, canola oil, and soy then releases dermatoxins that come out through the skin causing rashes and/or neurotoxins that inflame your nerves causing pain. When the immune system is weakened, the virus can become aggressive and proliferate extremely rapidly. But knowing what fuels the virus, and what starves it, gives you the power to kill it off and heal. DairyMilk, cheese, butter, cream, and yogurt are high in fat, which can be difficult for the liver and digestive system to process. They also contain lactose (sugar + fat combination), and are believed to contribute to inflammation, mucus production, and can feed pathogens in the body. Even organic dairy may still have these effects. PorkAll forms of pork (including bacon, ham, and processed products) are high in fat and can be taxing on the body, making it harder to support healing. GlutenFound in wheat, barley, rye, and spelt, gluten can trigger inflammation—especially in the gut—and may disrupt the immune system. Reducing gluten (and grains in general) is often recommended for better recovery. EggsWhile once a survival food, eggs are believed in this approach to feed pathogens such as viruses, bacteria, and yeast. They may also contribute to inflammation and can aggravate chronic symptoms. Canola Oil Highly processed and often GMO, canola oil is considered inflammatory and harsh on the digestive system. It’s commonly used in packaged foods and restaurants, so it’s important to check labels. Soy Much of today’s soy is genetically modified or heavily processed. Some products may also contain additives like MSG. Corn Once a staple food, corn is now largely GMO and highly processed. It is believed to contribute to inflammation and feed pathogens. Corn and its byproducts (like corn syrup and corn oil) are found in many packaged foods. You deserve to have full knowledge of what you consume, and what effects it all has on your body. #canolaoil #eggs #dairy #shingles #corn

Honestly - I was probably in my final year at medical school when I finally worked out the mystery that is shingles! So don't feel bad - but here's what your need to know (bear with me): 👉Chicken pox is caused by a virus called Varicella-Zoster virus (VZV) 👉Most catch it in childhood 👉Once you've had chicken pox, the VZV virus lays dormant in your spinal column (down your spine) 👉At some inconvenient moment in the future - often when you're immune system is a bit down for whatever reason, it comes out to play. 👉It does this by picking a nerve and travelling along it to the skin where you it then causes the symptoms of shingles - a burning, tingly painful sensation and a blistery rash. 👉When VZV does this, it is said to have 're-activated' and we call this reactivated virus Herpes Zoster You cannot catch shingles - it comes by itself from chicken pox you had years/decades previously. The fluid in the blisters of shingles contains the same virus as the fluid in the blisters of chicken pox. ✅You CANcatch chicken pox from shingles ❌But you CANNOT catch shingles from chicken pox ❌And you CANNOT catch shingles from shingles ❌YOU CANNOT CATCH SHINGLES #shingles #Chickenpox #Varicella #varicelazoster #HerpesZoster

💉 Shingles vaccine is one of the very best preventative vaccines we have. With over 90% effectiveness. In today’s ‘The Wellness Prescription’, my weekly prevention is better than cure series, I share the evidence based Shingrix Vaccine. ✅The vaccine is well studied and very effective. No vaccine guarantees full immunity but this vaccine offers a 90% reduction in developing shingles which is excellent. Those who do get shingles tend to have a much milder disease and the complications significantly less. 👉More recent research is very promising across several studies that the shingles vaccine may reduce the onset of DEMENTIA. This is very exciting news but deserves more research. Some studies quote up to a 20% reduction risk 🙌 The Shingrix Vaccine helps prevent the agonising nerve pain that can last months to over a year. This pain is debilitating and requires very strong pain medications. Quality of life is vastly affected. ⚠️A shingles rash that develops near your eyes requires URGENT medical attention. Loss of sight is a common complication of the shingles virus on your face. Despite the HSE promoting the vaccine to vastly reduce the risk of shingles and its complications, the vaccine is sadly not free 😢as I believe it should be. Prevention is always better than cure. If you are 50 years or over and/or immunocompromised over 18, the shingles vaccine is well worth the investment. Would I take the vaccine myself? Yes I have and seeing countless patients suffer the consequences of shingles over the years, it’s a no brainer for me. If you are interested in evidence based no nonsense health and medicines advice, be sure to follow to keep up to date throughout the week. Hope this helps? Tom the Pharmacist 🧑‍⚕️ PS Many pharmacies and GPs offer the vaccine PPS pharmacists are now allowed to prescribe and diagnose for shingles outbreaks so you don’t have to wait for a doctor‘s appointment. Urgent care is very important for the best outcome 🙏 . . ⚠️General advice only. Please consult your own doctor or pharmacist for personal advice. . #pharmacistadvice #shinglesvaccine #shingrix #postherpeticneuralgia #dementiaresearch

Shingles: The Viral Volcano Hiding in Your Nervous System 🌋🦠 Shingles (aka herpes zoster) causes a painful, blistering rash—but here's the wild part: it's caused by the SAME virus that gave you chickenpox! The Chickenpox Connection 🐔 Remember that ridiculously itchy rash covered in bumps all over your body? That was the varicella-zoster virus. But here's the kicker: After chickenpox symptoms resolve, the virus DOESN'T leave your body. Instead, it hides like a dormant, jerk-faced viral volcano, waiting for the perfect moment to erupt. 😤 Where Does It Hide? 🧠 After the initial chickenpox infection, the varicella-zoster virus retreats into your nervous system—specifically into the dorsal root ganglion. This is a small swelling/bulge in a sensory nerve root coming off the dorsal (back) side of your spinal cord. The bulge contains cell bodies of sensory neurons, and the virus hangs out there dormant—potentially for decades! What Wakes It Up? ⚡ Fast forward 20, 30, or even 50 years later: something weakens your immune system (stress, aging, illness), and the virus reactivates. It travels down a sensory nerve and erupts on your skin as shingles—a painful, blistering rash typically in a single stripe or band. Your body's been harboring this viral time bomb all along! 💣 Want the full breakdown of shingles and how it affects your nervous system? It’s been a little over two months since I got shingles and I’m finally starting to feel like myself again. I’m still more tired than usual and I still deal with some lightheadedness and headaches, but overall the symptoms are much more manageable. My face is still healing. The lesion scars have improved a lot in the last couple of weeks, even though they’re still there. I’ve been consistent with ScarAway, using very low dose retinol carefully and layering Aquaphor to support healing. It’s a slow process, especially when shingles hits the ophthalmic nerve like it did for me. The nerve pain was unlike anything I’ve experienced. If you’re eligible for the shingles vaccine, get it. I didn’t realize you can get shingles more than once and I won’t be taking that risk again. If you’re in the middle of it, hang in there. It does get better. #ShinglesRecovery #ShinglesAwareness #WomensHealth #MidlifeHealth #HealthUpdate

#shingles is no joke. IYKYK! At 44, life got too busy I guess and what started as a tingling sensation on my face, lead to ear pain, then swelling and blisters. I was in 3 hospitals by the time it was properly diagnosed (first they thought sinus infection, then ear infection, then properly diagnosed as Shingles; verified by bursting blisters and swabbing puss Doctor said, “do not touch your face, don’t shower, only washcloth baths. Even water will hurt. Nothing can help your face. In 2 weeks you can use Aquaphor.” I went straight home and used Shaklee YOUTH #regimen and see what happened! Right now, you can get 2 🆓 masks that’ll last months! A gel hydration mask (gold color) that feels like an in-home facial and clay detoxification mask (grey color pulls out white & black heads & exfoliates). DM me with questions.
