Around 60,000 in the crowd. Siamese Dream was out for 6 months. Band was big, getting bigger. They ended the set with Silverfuck. Not a single. Not a radio song. Just a long, noisy deep cut they used to stretch out live. Around 9 minutes of jamming, feedback, breaks, noise. It wasn’t for casual listeners. This is how they played during this era. Loud, unpredictable, no safe choices. The record had been made under pressure. Billy Corgan largely re-tracked James Iha and D’arcy Wretzky’s parts in the studio with producer Butch Vig, while Jimmy Chamberlin’s drumming remained central. The sessions were expensive, tense, and nearly broke the band financially. At this point, they were still rebuilding trust onstage. “Mayonaise” was never released as a single, yet it became one of the most requested songs on the tour. The opening guitar feedback was accidental during recording and left in the final mix. Corgan has described the song as reflecting insecurity and identity during the band’s early rise, written before the album was finished but shaped during the most difficult period of tracking. Live at Metro in August ’93, the arrangement was louder and less layered than the studio version, closer to how the song was originally written before the overdubs stacked up.
