#OnThisDay in 1970 the greatest Sonny Liston passed away and here's what Tyson says about him ! RIP CHAMP ❤️ 💎 Video is not mine! Charles L. "Sonny" Liston (c. 1930 – December 30, 1970), nicknamed "the Big Bear", was an American professional boxer who competed from 1953 to 1970. A dominant contender of his era, he became the undisputed world heavyweight champion in 1962 after knocking out Floyd Patterson in the first round, repeating the knockout the following year in defense of the title In the latter fight he also became the inaugural WBC heavyweight champion. Often regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, Liston is known for his immense strength, formidable jab, long reach, toughness, and is widely regarded as the most intimidating man in the history of combat sports. The Ring magazine ranks Liston as the tenth greatest heavyweight of all time, while boxing writer Herb Goldman ranked him second and Richard O'Brien, Senior Editor of Sports Illustrated, placed him third. Alfie Potts Harmer in The Sportster also ranked him the third greatest heavyweight and the sixth greatest boxer at any weight. Liston was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991. #boxinghistory82

In 1964, the world watched a 22 year old Muhammad Ali sit on a wooden stool and say he was done. He was tired. He was blinded. He was overwhelmed. Across the ring was Sonny Liston, a man people genuinely believed could kill him. So let me ask you something. If you were exhausted, in pain, half blind, and convinced the system was against you… would you look fearless? Or would you look human? We romanticize strength so much that we forget what it actually looks like in real time. It looks like doubt. It looks like fear. It looks like someone questioning whether they can keep going. Ali was not brave because he never wanted to quit. He was brave because he wanted to quit and still got up. That moment on the stool was not weakness. It was the crossroads. It was the space between who he was and who he would become. Most people never become great because they obey that first urge to escape discomfort. They leave the gym. They leave the business. They leave the relationship. They leave the vision. Not because they are incapable. Because they are tired. Ali’s trainer forced him back into the ring. Life will not always do that for you. Sometimes there is no one yelling in your ear. Sometimes it is just you and the decision. When you feel like sitting down for good, that is usually the round that defines you. He did not win because he was stronger. He won because he stood up one more time than the strongest man in the world. The real question is not whether you have ever felt like quitting. The real question is who you become after that feeling hits. Greatness is not the absence of fear. It is the refusal to stay seated in it. #Mindset #Motivation #Resilience #SelfBelief #Growth

Former heavyweight champion Sonny Liston being shockingly knocked out by Leotis Martin in Las Vegas. For much of the fight, Liston appeared in control, using his jab and experience to break Martin down. But in the ninth round, Martin landed a perfectly timed right hand that sent Liston crashing to the canvas. The former champion was counted out, marking one of the biggest upset knockouts of the era. Tragically, Martin would later discover he had a detached retina from the bout and was forced to retire shortly after the biggest win of his career. A dramatic moment in heavyweight history. #Boxing #SonnyListon #LeotisMartin #HeavyweightHistory #OnThisDay #BoxingHistory 🥊

Some photographers capture action. Neil Leifer captured immortality. At just sixteen, shooting for Sports Illustrated, he began redefining how sport could be seen — not as spectacle alone, but as theatre, tension, and myth frozen in a single frame. His image of Muhammad Ali standing over Sonny Liston isn’t just a sports photograph; it’s a cultural monument. The composition, the distance, the silence around the roar — Leifer understood that greatness lives in timing and perspective. The greatest sports photographer? When history remembers the moment, it remembers his photograph. @archived.dreams *This content is for educational purposes only

Most people remember Muhammad Ali for his speed, movement, and beautiful boxing skills. But when Ali decided to attack aggressively, the results were devastating. 🔥 vs Cleveland Williams (1966) One of Ali’s most dominant performances. Lightning-fast combinations overwhelmed Williams before the brutal Round 3 knockout. 🔥 vs George Foreman (1974) After tiring Foreman with the famous rope-a-dope strategy, Ali suddenly exploded with a powerful combination that knocked out the undefeated champion. 🔥 vs Sonny Liston (1965) Ali shocked the world with the legendary “phantom punch,” dropping Liston in Round 1. Ali wasn’t just fast and smart — when he attacked with aggression, he could finish fights in spectacular fashion. Speed. Timing. Power. That’s why he was called The Greatest. #foryou #viralvideo #viralreels #boxing #muhammadali

He is often regarded as the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time. Muhammad Ali was a global cultural icon who transcended the world of sports to become a symbol of religious freedom, racial pride, and social justice. Born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. in 1942, he first rose to fame by winning a gold medal at the 1960 Rome Olympics before capturing the world heavyweight title in a stunning upset against Sonny Liston in 1964. Beyond his revolutionary boxing style—defined by the mantra “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”—Ali was equally famous for his quick wit, poetic trash-talking, and unwavering convictions. He famously changed his name after joining the Nation of Islam and later sacrificed the prime of his career when he refused to be drafted into the Vietnam War as a conscientious objector. This act of defiance made him a lightning rod for controversy but ultimately established him as a hero of the counterculture and civil rights movements. Even after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s syndrome in 1984, Ali dedicated his life to humanitarianism and global peace, leaving a legacy that balances his fierce warrior spirit in the ring with a message of universal compassion. #qualitykey #muhammadali #motivational #inspirational #quoteoftheday

٢٥ مايو ١٩٦٥ — محمد علي المعروف وقتها باسم كاسيوس كلاي وجّه في هذا اليوم ضربة إلى فك خصمه سوني ليستون أصبحت تُعرف باسم "اللكمة الشبح" — لأنها كانت سريعة لدرجة إن القليل من الحضور شافوها 🥊💨 May 25, 1965 — Muhammad Ali, still mostly known at the time as Cassius Clay, on this day landed a blow on the jaw of his opponent, Sonny Liston, that became known as “the phantom punch” – so called because few people at the event saw it. 🥊💨
