Here is a look at one of my son’s first Spelling to Communicate (S2C) sessions with Jessica Sibley @mindsinmotionot Initially I thought why does my son need to learn to communicate this way when he has some spoken language? He is considered an “unreliable” speaker, someone whose spoken words often do not match what is really going on inside. It’s taken so long to understand the layers and nuances around communicating for autistics and of course each person is different. And I have been a fan for a few years, since I met her in person in 2022. She embodies a level of Zen mom that I have been fan-girling about for a while! The reason that communication works so much better in Spelled Communication techniques like RPM and Spellers and S2C is because of the role of co-regulation. A communication partner supports communication AND regulation. And when these two variables are taken care of - communication is now on Speed Dial!
