MYDaniel Arsham’s (@danielarsham) “Labyrinth” sculpture is selected as Best in Show at Frieze Los Angeles 2026 (@friezeofficial) by My Modern Met’s Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Eugene Kim (@meaningbehindart). Presented by Perrotin (@perrotin), the piece immediately draws you in. With intricate texture and carved architectural detail, Arsham transforms a serene female face into a sculptural maze that feels both intimate and monumental.
Arsham explains: “This labyrinth edition takes the architecture of my larger labyrinth sculptures and distills it into a smaller work. The form recalls the calm profiles of ancient Rome or Greece, but the interior is carved into a network of staircases, chambers, and quiet architectural passages. The figure becomes a kind of map of the mind. Each turn suggests a memory. Each room suggests an emotion. The labyrinth becomes a way of visualizing how thought moves through us, never in a straight line but always through unexpected corridors.
The materiality is central. The entire work is cast in sand, a substance that is usually fragile and temporary. In this form it becomes permanent and monumental. That tension between ephemerality and endurance is part of the meaning. Sand is something we associate with erosion and time slipping through our hands, but here it holds a face, a structure and an interior world. The work becomes a reminder that the subconscious is built from things that feel fleeting yet ultimately shape the foundation of who we are.”
In person, the depth is undeniable. The labyrinth turns a classical face into something immersive and psychological, the kind of work you keep coming back to. It would feel equally at home in a museum setting or anchoring a thoughtfully curated private collection.

Featured in this video is The Raft inspired by Theodore Gericault’s Raft of the Medusa. I think it goes without saying that we’re living in unprecedented times. Times where familiar systems have faltered and the future feels deeply uncertain. The Raft hovers over these concerns, imagining a space between collapse and renewal. What stories do we tell ourselves to make our actions just and moral? What limits do we place on ourselves, and how do people identify and repair those threads that can unravel the whole system keeping us alive.

GAThere’s a reason why the Ghost Series feels uncomfortable.
An artist’s work often moves from one idea to the next. Meaning isn’t always fixed at the start. Sometimes it reveals itself over time–shaped as much by the viewer as by the artist. What matters most is the feeling it leaves behind.
But these pieces carry a particular unease.
In Ghost Series #2, power is represented by an Industrial cylinder, Rivets, Copper plates. It is a deconstructed representation of a monument with white figures standing outside it: reduced, simplified, present — but without access. It feels like containment. Surveillance. Authority. Submission.
This structure of authority is also engineered. Designed to exclude us.
This sculpture asks the question, what does it look like when power begins to crack?

JOInspired by the world serpent. A symbol of power, protection, and perpetual movement.
Composed of individually crafted brass scales, this sculptural installation is designed to emerge from within the wall itself.
As light moves across the surface, reflections shift and animate the form, creating the illusion that the snake is alive, slowly crawling through the architecture.
Conceived as a site-specific work for a @clubegotampa in Tampa, the piece exists at the intersection of mythology, light, and space.
Not an object placed on a wall, but a presence revealed by it.
This reel captures moments of the making process, where precision and repetition allow movement to appear through light alone.

Plato’s Cave: “The Sleeper Has Awakened”
A one night exhibition and shadow play performance by Miami-based artist George Sanchez-Calderon, taking place on March 19 from 7–9 PM.
Selected as an Open Call winner, Sanchez-Calderon premieres this shadow play in a site-specific response to the architecture and atmosphere of Tunnel’s project room.
“The Sleeper Has Awakened” draws from the true story of Johnny Cash’s descent into Nickajack Cave, Tennessee, in October 1967, when the musician entered the cave with the
intention of ending his life. Emerging instead with a renewed sense of purpose, the cave became both a literal and symbolic threshold, a space of darkness, confrontation, and
awakening. Through shadow, light, and narrative, Sanchez-Calderon transforms Tunnel into a contemporary allegory of Plato’s cave: a place where perception, illusion, and revelation coexist.

Every life moves through these passages. Not always in the same order, not always with the same awareness. Yet they return, as if a silent pattern were weaving our paths together.
The sculptures reveal their essential core: armatures, intertwined metal structures suspended in the void. Frameworks that usually remain hidden, but here become visible. Threads and veiled images connect the elements, suggesting that nothing truly exists alone.
Augmented reality reveals an invisible structure linking the work. It does not replace reality, it makes it readable.
Perhaps reality is not only what we see, but also the invisible bonds that weave our lives together.

Ogni vita attraversa questi passaggi. Non sempre nello stesso ordine, non sempre con la stessa consapevolezza. Eppure tornano, come se esistesse uno schema silenzioso che intreccia le nostre strade.
Le sculture mostrano il loro nucleo più essenziale: armature, intrecci di metallo sospesi nel vuoto. Strutture che di solito restano nascoste, ma qui diventano visibili. Fili e immagini velate collegano ogni elemento, suggerendo che nulla esiste davvero da solo.
La realtà aumentata rivela uno schema invisibile che unisce l’opera. Non aggiunge qualcosa al reale, lo rende leggibile.
Forse la realtà non è fatta solo di ciò che vediamo, ma anche di legami invisibili, come trame di una stessa storia.
