ALI forget that a lot of folks have never seen what a splitboard is. So here ya go!
Every single snowboarding clip you’ve seen on my channel in the past two+ seasons is via human powered access. Ie: I split my board into skis and walk uphill for a very long time to take a run or two of fresh, untracked powder (hopefully 🤞). There’s something special about climbing a mountain and getting to ride it back down.
On a splitboard, The bindings hold the board together. Two joints on the nose and tail and two joints between those and the bindings provide additional support.
You switch the binding into a touring (walking) bracket which pivots off the toes, essentially creating a telemark ski.
Skins are place on the bottom which are a piece of fabric with small hairs that glide on the snow in one direction and traction the other, which allow you to walk uphill without slipping backwards.
I carry a pair of collapsible poles that I can stash on my pack when I ride.

OPI had no idea these existed!!!
For the longest time I thought to get into the backcountry in winter, you HAD to be a skier. Everyone I’ve ever seen out “touring” goes uphill on 2 skis which made the idea of snowboarding in the backcountry seem pretty outlandish.
BUT THEN I was introduced to a SPLITboard- which is pretty much just a snowboard that splits into two ski-like halves for uphill travel, then locks back together for the ride down (srsly whoever invented this is a genius)
This is my first season splitboarding, and I’ve been absolutely loving it. It has combined two of my favorite activities- hiking and snowboarding- and is my new favorite way to get some exercise in winter!
