When the Chinatown BID sunsetted at the end of December, the #1 concern we heard from seniors and small businesses was safety. KNAfter the Making app was sunsetted, I asked myself a real question…
Do I keep the podcast going? Or do I let it go?
Making Conversation started as a way to stay connected to the knitting, crochet, and maker community and show the kind of space we were building. But when that chapter closed, the podcast became something so much more.
It continued to be a place to listen deeply. To stay curious. To tell meaningful stories with care. It has also been a place to experiment, create, and keep my creative muscles sharp.
Even when it would have been reasonable to stop, I didn’t want to, because it still keeps me connected to such a beautiful group of humans but it also keeps me connected to what I love most in my work—shaping narrative, building community, helping people feel seen.
And while I kept it going, I was also doing what you do in a transition. Consulting. Applying. Interviewing. Getting close. Feeling so hopeful. Getting the “no.”
When you’re intentional about where you want to lead and make impact, you don’t just take any seat at the table. And that means sometimes the table isn’t yours. And yeah, for a minute that can really sting…
But here’s what I remembered:
I’ve spent 15+ years leading marketing strategy, growing communities, shaping brands, launching campaigns, building momentum from scratch. I know how to see the throughline. I know how to tell the story and I know how to make it matter to the right people.
And then at some point, you realize maybe you’re not waiting for a door to open.
Maybe you’re meant to claim your own space.

MNI purchased this motorcycle a few months back and it's been nothing but joy! Gotta give it up to the last inexpensive motorcycle produced by Kawasaki, the KLR 650 was sunsetted after many years in production and the community of motorcycle riders asked to bring it back and so they did.
