If someone said my chest hurts,you’d tell them to go to the hospital. But if someone says my mind won’t stop spiraling, we say, You’ll be fine, don’t overthink.If someone broke their leg, they’d get time off, rest, support, check-ins. But if someone breaks down mentally, they still show up to work, pretend to smile, and get told stay strong.That’s the problem. We take physical pain seriously, but treat emotional pain like an inconvenience. Like it needs to be hidden, denied, or passed off as weakness.We tell people to ‘talk about it,’ but when they do we get uncomfortable, we change the topic, we call it drama.
Some people are fighting for their lives in their own heads while responding to texts, making dinner, attending meetings, and posting stories like everything’s fine. That’s the reality of this generation. We’re depressed but still showing up. Anxious but still laughing in public. Healing but still giving to people who don’t even notice. And you know what’s exhausting? Pretending. Carrying invisible pain and still having to prove it’s real. And no one talks about how shameful it feels to ask for help, how hard it is to say I’m not okay without sounding ‘too much.’ People don’t want honesty. They want comfort. They want you to be normal.Even if it kills you slowly.
But what if we stopped romanticizing strength as suffering in silence? What if we started treating panic attacks like broken bones? What if I need therapy was as normal as I need medicine? This isn’t just some poetic thought—it’s survival. Because some people aren’t being dramatic. They’re drowning. And all they need is one person to say, I believe you. I see you. I’m here. So if no one told you lately your pain is not imaginary. You’re not weak for feeling deeply. And healing isn’t a straight line. You’re allowed to take your time. You’re allowed to not have it all together. And if the world doesn’t understand? Screw the world. You don’t need permission to heal. You just need space to exist. Unapologetically.
