Tactile sensitivity??? Clothing. Sheets. Hand holding. Massages. Even kissing. Allll a part of the tactile sensation. And how regulated you are for sure has a lot to do with touch and sensitivity. It’s all part of what makes up our sensory system. tactile hypersensitivity occurs because the brain pays too much attention to light touch and protective sensations from the skin. Instead of listening to the extra information available from the discriminative pathway, the brain keeps paying attention to the light touch and protective sensations. Curious. How many of you struggle with tactile sensitivity?!? Would love to know in the comments below. And send this to a friend who may find this interesting!! How it helps: - • Tactile Sensitivity: These activities can help children with tactile sensitivity issues by exposing them to different textures and surfaces. • Proprioception: Footwork activities enhance proprioceptive awareness, helping children understand and control the position of their bodies in space. • Bilateral Coordination: These activities require the use of both sides of the body, improving coordination between the two. • Gross Motor Skills: Footwork activities enhance gross motor skills by promoting coordinated movements of the legs and feet. • Core Strength: Activities that involve footwork also engage the core muscles, contributing to overall stability. • Postural Control: Good footwork helps maintain proper posture and balance, reducing the risk of falls and injuries. . . . Vibrating oral motor tools are used in feeding therapy as well as used to improve speech clarity by improving the oral tactile sensitivity and oral sensory awareness. These tools are used in and around the mouth: lips, cheeks, in buccal cavity, tongue and palate and we love to use these as placement tools for the production of desired speech sounds. #ticklesindia #ticklesindiachildtherapycentre #talktools #oralplacementtherapy #oralmotor #oralsensory #feedingissues #pickyeaters #momsofinsta #momsoftoddlers #pickyeaters #speechdelay #speechielife #speechtips

Tactile sensitivity is not stubbornness — it’s the nervous system feeling unsafe. Many children with sensory processing challenges find touch overwhelming. In Occupational Therapy, deep, graded tactile input using a roller helps the brain slowly learn that touch can be safe, calming, and organizing. This type of rolling activity provides deep pressure input, which supports: ✔ Reduced tactile defensiveness ✔ Better body awareness ✔ Muscle relaxation ✔ Improved regulation and emotional calm With the right pressure, pace, and therapist guidance, children move from avoiding touch to accepting and enjoying it. ✨ Regulate through touch. ✨ Heal through movement. #OccupationalTherapy #PediatricOT #TactileSensitivity #TactileDefensiveness #SensoryIntegration #DeepPressure #OTTools #AutismTherapy #SensoryProcessing #SpecialNeedsSupport #Neurodevelopment #TherapyThroughPlay #SensoryRegulation #OTWorks

T = Tactile Sensitivity Welcome to my ABC’s of OT series: simple tips and values that support kids in meaningful, child-centered ways for each letter of the alphabet, from a pediatric occupational therapist. Go binge letters A-S and follow along for more 🩵 ✨So what is “tactile sensitivity” or “tactile defensive”? Tactile sensitivity means a child’s nervous system responds more intensely to touch, typically unexpected or messy textures. They have a lower threshold for input, so what feels fun or to one child (like paint, slime, or sand) can feel overwhelming, uncomfortable, or even distressing to another. They might pull away, say “ewe!” or “no!”, or flat-out refuse to touch it. They’re not being difficult, it’s their body saying ‼️this doesn’t feel safe right now‼️ “But why bother with messy play if they don’t like it?”
-Because it helps the brain process sensory input and supports everyday skills like dressing, mealtime, and social play. You’re not trying to make them love slime overnight, you’re giving their nervous system small, repeated chances to feel safe and in control. ✨When does tactile sensitivity become a concern? ➡️When it’s getting in the way of everyday life. If your child’s tactile sensitivity is so strong that it limits their ability to participate and function in daily activities (like brushing teeth, washing with soap, or playing with peers), it might be worth seeking support. We all have sensory preferences. I don’t like nails on a chalkboard or touching paper when my hands are dry. But it’s not significantly impacting my daily life. 🫶🏼Let’s make messy play feel safe, not scary. **this is not medical advice, please talk to your own providers #abcsofot #tactilesensitivity #tactiledefensive #messyplay

🌟 Discover the magic of sensory stepping stones! 🌟 Walking on textured stepping stones isn't just fun—it's a powerful tool for sensory regulation and overall well-being. Here’s how they can make a difference: 👣 Reduce Toe Walking: By stimulating different parts of the feet, stepping stones encourage a more natural gait, reducing toe walking tendencies. 🦶 Less Tactile Sensitivity: Regular use helps desensitize feet, making various textures less overwhelming and more comfortable. 👟 Enhanced Comfort in Shoes & Socks: Improved foot sensitivity translates to better comfort, as your feet become more adaptable to different footwear. 🧠 Support Sensory Regulation: Stepping stones provide consistent sensory input, which can help regulate sensory processing and improve focus. ✨ Additional Benefits: Beyond these key points, stepping stones also promote balance, coordination, and proprioception, making every step a step towards better sensory health! Step into a world of sensory exploration with stepping stones—your feet (and your brain) will thank you! 💪👣💖 #SensorySteppingStones #OccupationalTherapy #SensoryIntegration #ToeWalking #TactileSensitivity #FootComfort #SensoryRegulation #BalanceAndCoordination #schoolOT #sensory #OTtips

Tactile hypersensitivity is often overlooked and parents think the child is being more hygienic, while in other case parents never let child involve in any kind of messy play! Constantly cleaning and wiping them! Let the child explore, let them get their hands, face and body messy ! If your child is sensitive to touch input this is what you can do! Start slow! Start with textures that are comfortable first and grade up ( for example dry- semi dry- moist- wet- slimy- sticky) Model them! You start showing how to explore and play with textures and show how much fun it is Don’t force, always keep a towel or tissue next and offer them to wipe whenever they feel so. Let the child have control over the input! Don’t stop with hands focus whole body and face comes last Most importantly work with your Occupational therapist to work on child’s overall sensory system since they might have challenge with other systems and other developmental areas such as emotional regulation, attention and motor skills can be impacted too! It’s very important to take professional support! #tactile #tactilehypersensitivity #sensoryprocessing #occupacionaltherapy #sensoryintegration

Tactile sensitivity, also known as tactile defensiveness, is an over responsiveness to tactile input. Children with tactile sensitivity exhibit low threshold for registering tactile sense. ⬇️ Tactile sensitivity child may look like: 😣 avoid messy play such as sand/ playdough 😣 avoid being touched by others 😣 dislike specific food texture 😣 discomfort with specific clothing items 😣 struggle with grooming and hygiene Pediatric OT uses various methods and techniques to help children who struggle with tactile defensiveness better manage and tolerate tactile input, hoping to improve their participation in daily tasks ☺️❣️ #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricot #pedsot #sensory
