30 years ago, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 opened the door to a digital revolution and intermodal competition. As a telecoms lawyer for 25 years, I saw firsthand how competition and the innovations sparked by the Act dramatically transformed the communications ecosystem. As we grapple with persistent issues of universal connectivity, affordability, consumer protection and free speech, I joined @energycommerce Democrats to discuss the importance of modernizing the Telecoms Act for today’s world.

USA FCC Expands Covered List to Include Foreign-Made Routers The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced an important update to its Covered List, adding routers manufactured in foreign countries. The public notice was released on March 23, 2026, reinforcing ongoing efforts to address security risks in telecommunications infrastructure. Under this update, routers identified within the scope are now subject to increased regulatory scrutiny and potential restrictions. However, devices that have already received Conditional Approval are exempt from this requirement. In addition, the FCC has published a dedicated FAQ to clarify the implications of this change and provide guidance to manufacturers and stakeholders. This development highlights the growing focus on supply chain security and regulatory control in the U.S. telecom market, making it essential for companies to reassess compliance strategies and product eligibility. Happy Friday, you beautiful people! Today we’ve got a few more classics passing through the doors — plenty to enjoy. A Cisco-branded Sourcefire firewall, a mix of Cisco and Arista switches, and even an appearance from the daddy of Cisco switches from days gone by. Every day is a surprise here at Go Communications. Legacy networks are everywhere, and we play a key role in keeping them alive and well. While most of our day job is refurbishing current, in-life network equipment (that’s what pays the wages), I’ll admit it — the older networks we support are often the most interesting. Surely it’s not just me? #LegacyNetworks #RefurbishedNetworking #Cisco #Arista #CircularEconomy

Who is COFNII and why does it matter for the future of connectivity? The Confederation of Fibre Optic Network Infrastructure and Installers (COFNII) is dedicated to raising standards across the telecommunications and digital infrastructure industry. As demand for fibre broadband, high-speed connectivity and next-generation networks continues to grow, the need for skilled professionals, industry standards and collaboration has never been greater. Through training, certification and industry partnerships, COFNII supports the people building the networks that power our digital world. From fibre optic infrastructure to telecom network installation standards, we are working to close the skills gap and strengthen the future of the telecoms industry. #telcoms #about us

#OTD in 1959 in #computinghistory, Texas Instruments publicly demonstrated the integrated circuit. An integrated circuit (IC) is a tiny chip that combines multiple electronic components onto a single piece of semiconductor material. With an IC, engineers can make electronic devices smaller, faster, and more reliable.

When people hear “fiber internet,” they often think it simply means faster speeds. But fiber optics fundamentally changes how data moves. Traditional copper networks transmit data using electrical signals. Fiber optic networks transmit data using pulses of light traveling through strands of glass thinner than a human hair. What does that mean in practice? 🛣️ Greater bandwidth capacity 🔄 Symmetrical upload and download speeds 📏 Longer transmission distances without signal loss ☁️ Support for data-intensive applications like cloud services, AI, video collaboration, and research workloads Fiber infrastructure isn’t just an upgrade — it’s the foundation that allows organizations to scale as technology demands continue to grow. As more services move to the cloud and real-time data becomes standard, the underlying network matters more than ever. #FiberOptics #Connectivity #Technology #Futurism #CapeCod #Providence

The way we communicate has changed – and it’s time for the rules to catch up. We’ve put together America’s Connected Future, a new space to highlight the benefits of modern networks to help you understand the transition and your protections at every step. Modern networks – like internet-based, wireless, and satellite services – support how we stream, learn, work, and stay in touch with loved ones. Meanwhile, some telecom rules are stuck in the 1900s, keeping folks’ connectivity stuck with them. Check it out at AmericasConnectedFuture.org.

Good morning Clayton, #ItsFriday! There’s a global shortage of memory chips, the tiny parts inside your phone, laptop, and even your car. This shortage is happening because demand has skyrocketed from data centers, cloud services, and the emergence of new devices, while production hasn’t kept up due to supply chain issues and limited manufacturing capacity. So when those chips get expensive, everything gets expensive. But fear not, because we have some solutions for you in our #FunFactFriday video that we think will help you to not have to eat those rising costs. #Access4Clayton #DigitalEquity #DigitalInclusion #ClaytonCounty #fyp #explore
