The temporal bone is an irregularly shaped paired bone of the neurocranium. Each of these bones is found on either side of the skull along its inferolateral aspect. Therefore, the temporal bones form the lateral walls and the base of the skull.💡 The temporal bones are among the most complex bones of the human body. They house the middle and inner ears and contain numerous canals and openings that transmit blood vessels and nerves, including the cranial nerves. Each temporal bone also houses three auditory ossicles (malleus, incus, and stapes).😎 The temporal bone is composed of four parts: 🔸Squamous part - a flat, thin, plate-like portion that forms the lateral wall of the skull and extends in the superior direction; 🔸Tympanic part - a small, curved, canal-like part found inferior to the squamous part and immediately posterior to the temporomandibular joint; 🔸Mastoid part - found posterior to the tympanic part; defined by the inferior projection (mastoid process) of the bone that is easily palpable behind the auricle; 🔸Petrous part - a massive and dense pyramidal-shaped portion that forms the cranial base. The human skull is composed of two distinct parts known as the neurocranium and viscerocranium.💡 The neurocranium consists of bones that surround and encase the brain and sensory organs connected to the brain. Therefore, the neurocranium is also known as the braincase. 😎 The neurocranium is formed by the following eight bones: 🔸Frontal bone 🔸Ethmoid bone 🔸Sphenoid bone 🔸Parietal bones (2) 🔸Temporal bones (2) 🔸Occipital bone Learn human anatomy fast! The temporal bones are in three parts during birth and the opening between temporal bone and occiput will always have to deal with compression forces at the base of the skull. A temporal bone that is stuck also affects the cranial nerves (12 paired nerves that extend out from the brain stem) and can lead to problems with digestion like colic, impairment of the sucking reflex and breathing problems. *In adult life, it can manifest as migraines, digestive problems, breathing problems, tinnitus, chronic fatigue, low potency and both hearing and learning disabilities. With babies, we are never forcing, always following. We’re allowing release to happen at its own, natural pace. And if there is restriction or sensitivity, we give even more space. Sometimes, 30 seconds can be enough for one Craniosacral hold to bring upon lasting relief. This little guy was immediately more calm, and noticeably more comfortable in the car following the whole session. At night, he was less fidgety and restless and slept more soundly. #craniosacralforbabies #healingtraumaimprints #babysleep

The sphenoid bone is a central, keystone bone of the skull that articulates with numerous other bones, helping to form the cranial base, the orbits, and the pterygopalatine fossa. Its articulations are essential for maintaining the structural integrity of the skull. Among the cranial bones, the sphenoid bone articulates with the frontal bone at its anterior aspect, contributing to the anterior cranial fossa and the orbits. It connects with the parietal bones along its superior and posterior edges and with the temporal bones, particularly at the greater wings and near the mandibular fossa. Posteriorly, it interacts with the occipital bone at the basilar part, creating the clivus, which supports the brainstem. Anteriorly, it meets the ethmoid bone at the cribriform and perpendicular plates. The sphenoid bone also interacts with facial bones. It joins with the vomer at its inferior surface, helping to form part of the nasal septum. The pterygoid processes connect with the palatine bones, while the greater wings meet the zygomatic bones, forming part of the orbital walls. The sphenoid’s position also allows it to articulate with the maxillae near the pterygoid region and, indirectly, with the nasal bones through its connection with the ethmoid. Summary of Articulations • Cranial Bones (6): Frontal, parietal (2), temporal (2), occipital, and ethmoid. • Facial Bones (6): Vomer, palatine (2), zygomatic (2), maxillae (2), and nasal bones. #osteopathy #osteopath #osteopathyworks #anatomy #osteopathic #cranialbones

💀 Do you know which skull bone this is? 👀📌 Questions make you smarter and that’s a fact! Follow our page for more 👉🏼 @rev.neuro ✅ Review Answer is D - Parietal bone The Neurocranium!        ✅ Overview⁣⁣      ⁣⁣      The 8 bones of the Neurocranium form a major portion of the skull. ⁣⁣      ⁣⁣      We have two temporal bones, two parietal bones, a single occipital bone, sphenoid bone, ethmoid bone and the frontal bone. ⁣⁣      ⁣⁣      ✅ Key Points⁣⁣      ⁣⁣      💀 Occipital Bone - forms the base of skull at the rear of cranium. Connects with the first vertebra of the spinal cord and contains foramen magnum (opening of skull through which spinal cord passes as it enters vertebral column).  ⁣⁣      💀 Temporal Bones - on the base and sides of the skull. Two processes originate: Zygomatic process (articulates with zygomatic bone of cheek) & the styloid process (several tongue muscles attach here) 💀 Parietal Bones - make up the roof and sides of the skull. 💀 Sphenoid Bone - middle of skull towards the front and forms the rear of the orbit. Butterfly shaped due to the wing-like processes. Interacts with numerous facial bones, ligaments & muscles. 💀 Ethmoid Bone - at the roof of the nose and between the orbits. Small bone separating the nasal cavity from the brain. 💀 Frontal Bone - forms the front of the skull and divided into 3 parts: Squamous, Orbital & Nasal. ✅ Mnemonic ⁣⁣      ⁣      ⁣ ’STEP OF 6’⁣⁣      *S - Sphenoid⁣⁣      *T - Temporal ⁣⁣      *E - Ethmoid⁣⁣      *P - Parietal⁣⁣      *O - Occipital⁣⁣      *F - Frontal⁣⁣      ⁣      Also ‘Old People From Texas Eat Sandwiches’⁣⁣      Occipital, Parietal, Frontal, Temporal, Ethmoid, Sphenoid⁣⁣      ⁣⁣      #skull #neuro #bones #REVmed #anatomy #anatomyandphysiology #physicaltherapy #revquiz #revqotd #REVmed #studygram #quiz #questions #skeleton #skulls #neuroanatomy #neuroscience #neurology
