شوک‌درمانی یا همون ECT یکی از روش‌های پزشکی برای درمان اختلالات شدید روانیه، مثل افسردگی عمیق، دوقطبی یا حتی اسکیزوفرنی – مخصوصاً وقتی دارو جواب نداده باشه یا خطر فوری وجود داشته باشه. در این روش، بیمار تحت بیهوشی کامل قرار می‌گیره و با یک جریان الکتریکی کنترل‌شده، تحریک خفیف مغزی ایجاد می‌شه. این تحریک باعث تغییر در فعالیت مغز می‌شه و می‌تونه به بهبود حال روانی کمک کنه. 📜 کمی تاریخچه: این روش از سال ۱۹۳۸ وجود داشته، ولی اون‌زمان به شکل ابتدایی و بدون بیهوشی انجام می‌شد. اما امروزه خیلی ایمن‌تر و با رعایت کامل اصول پزشکی انجام می‌شه. ❗ خیلی‌ها با شنیدن اسم “شوک” می‌ترسن یا یاد فیلم‌های ترسناک می‌افتن — ولی واقعیت با اون چیزی که فکر می‌کنیم خیلی فرق داره. And when you feel you’ve made no progress or having a day where you feel you look like you don’t gym ect it can be extremely disheartening, BUT it’s just a bad day🫶🏻 Most likely the next day or in the next few days you will have a completely different option!! You will find it hard because you’re always raising the bar which is why you feel you’re never satisfied!! Glad I didn’t listen because I wouldn’t be as explosive as I am today or just as athletic. It’s so important to be versatile in your fitness journey. Don’t get me wrong lifting weights is KEY for strength… but it’s not the end all be all especially for longevity. Train like an athlete 😉 BUILT TO LAST challenge starts sept 1!

Yallllll when they say residency is better than medical school they are not kidding (maybe just psychiatry residency ;) . Now that I’ve been on inpatient psych for 2 weeks I’m finally getting into my groove! I know my patients, I’m my own boss (no senior resident I have to impress, I dismiss myself when my work is done for the day), my attendings treat me as colleagues and trust me to see all my patients on my own and come up with my own plans. I’m teaching a team of medical students and taking such joy in letting them go home early since they’re not applying into psychiatry. . I share a workroom with my 5 bestie co interns and have a fascinating resident conference every lunch hour. I feel connected to my department at grand rounds every Tuesday morning being surrounded by psychiatry faculty at the forefront of medicine, and my program is at the cutting edge of interventional psychiatry with our own ECT suite and inpatient ketamine on the unit! .
