The scientists and faculty in this 90s classic are the kings of the "nothing to see here" attitude. While the student body is being systematically replaced by water-loving parasites, the adults are busy gaslighting everyone into thinking it’s just "hormones" or "stress."
It’s the perfect sci-fi trope: the experts are so fascinated by the discovery of a new species that they completely ignore the fact that it’s currently eating the town. Thank god for the "misfit" teens and their homemade chemistry sets (a.k.a. Scat), because the professionals were ready to hand over the keys to the planet just to get a good look at a tentacle. 🏫🐙
