JM“Smooth Criminal” was always the moment the stage shifted into another world. When I performed it with Michael on the HIStory World Tour and later in the This Is It rehearsals the lights dropped the room held its breath and every strike of the snare felt like footsteps in a dark alley. The groove was sharp relentless like a pulse guiding the audience through a scene where something dangerous was always about to happen. This performance became my most viral video because people can feel that tension and the shadowed world the music creates. On Halloween a night drawn to mystery and the thrill of the unknown it feels fitting to return to the song that always lived on the edge. Annie are you okay.
